Lovely dinner table topic... how long do you let diarrhea go for?

Okie doke... so we had about 4-5 days of runny poo's... not TOXIC poo, just runny and a little bit stinky, I put it down to teething but then she got gastro, vomiting and OMG toxic toxic green STINKY poo... (OMG seriously, I thought I'd need to report it to a dangerous substances organisation or something!)

She hasn't vomitied since Wednesday, but she's still holding on to her toxic poop... It's not green, its now yellow, but is terrible, stinky, and she now has a blistering rash on her bum which is just getting worse :(

How long do I leave her go? If she's still got a feral bum on Monday should we get her to the GP?

hey Leasha, my DS had a nasty dose of gastro when he was about 7 mths, ended up in hospital on a drip for 24 hours or so. Anyway, that's beside the point really, but the literature that i got from that experience said that the poo, and even the occasional vomit, can last for up to 10 days.

If you've got warm weather up there, can you let her run around outside without a nappy on, that will probably help her little bottom a bit. Not going to recommend it for inside just yet. If it persists for much more than a couple of days, I'd take her to the Dr.

What is her intake like? She eating and drinking? Just getting a little bit more info before I answer.

Seems our bubs are in sync Leesha. Lachlan has had bad toxic poos for around 5 days now. No gastro just yucky runny poo. Still eating and drinking fine and he also has a nasty rash...

if she is drinking and eating then thats a great sign but the drinking must be more than normal amount if jazz has runs, as for blistering joshie has had that and has one on there now we are changing 1.5 hourly and doing regular washes down there. If jazz still has it end of next week i would just check with dr to be sure they can give you a barrier cream for her bum. We put josh in a disposable and layered on the nappy paste, I would be avoiding the foods that make it worse like dairy except for her milk that is required. Keep the fluids right up and i would buys some hyrdylight stuff like icey poles or drink too. Defendantly give her something like that i would and do. Get shel to buy some at chemist and get jazz eating foods that are gentle on tummie.

She is eating fine, and drinking her usual amount of water, not more than usual, plus breastmilk. I was letting her have open access to the BM but have felt a bit off so she seems to not be asking for it as much (maybe it takes yucky LOL) today or yesterday.

DD had something similar about 6 months ago and her poor little bum was terrible. When i'd wipe she cry because it hurt so much :( I ended up buying Amolin Baby Wipes, using them, and coating in Amolin cream after EVERY nappy change (which i do anyway, with or without nappy rash). The wipes seemed to be a miracle - within a day there was a noticable difference. I got mine from the day and night pharmacy.

Leash, Byron is going through the exact same thing. He had 7 days of vomiting (only once a day), & his watery poos started about day 5. He's on day 9 now & his poor bottom is suffering. I just make sure I check his nappy every 30mins & put heaps of sudocream on.

From what I've googled, they say the watery poos can go up to 10 days. It's really important to get some electrolytes into Jazz if she's had this bug. Particularly if she's not drinking more than usual. It probably won't help the nappy rash though.

Hey honey, it can go for a while as a few have said... should start to settle now though. With her bum though, you could try some dermaid .5%.... so just the really weak one (over the counter) - my doc suggested it when Oskar had a blistering rash from antibiotics. It dried it out pretty much overnight, still looked red but was dry rather than all weepy and yuck. Also, just another thing which will help bring her tummy back into line is some Yakult or Inner Health Plus. I use Yakult cos it's easier and Oskar loves it. I have been giving it to him for a few weeks cos he was on ab's but I'm also paranoid about tummy bugs since I've had 3 myself in the past 4 months!!! Doc said it helps for sure. Vasaline!!! layer it on over her bum and fanny before she goes to bed. Its the poo thats making the rash as poo contains thrush (which is why we wipe back, not forth) Vasaline (or anything with p/jelly in it) is a barrier against the poo.
