Any tips for moving with a 9mth old?

Hi,

As the title says, have you got any tips for moving with a 9 month old baby?? We are moving into our new house on Friday :dance: but am a bit nervous as I've never moved with a baby before!!

Any tips???? :lol:

So far I have thought of
* making sure DD's room is packed up last and set up first in the new house so she can have all her things back asap.
* Keep toys, books, food, sippy cups in a bag alongside her nappy bag for the day we are moving so she has all her things to occupy her.
* Use portacot for her sleeps until the cot is set up in her new room.

Mum is coming to help out for 1 night and two days to mind DD and occupy her while I help DH with the big move..... thank goodness!

Good luck! We are hoping to be moving around christmas, so DD will be about 6 months...I'm not really looking forward to trying to pack/unpack and then clean our old house!

I'm in the same boat...cos we just bought a new house:dance:

I am dreading the packing, cleaning and unpacking too - I think I will be the "receiver" on moving day - waiting with DS at the new house and directing traffic. I might set up the play pen or portacot too - so he doesn't get stepped on!!!

I am also dreading getting this house ready to sell and keeping it "inspection ready":doh:

We moved interstate when DD was 4 months old, and will be moving again in a few months when our new house is built!!

If you have done a bit of travelling before, and portacots don't disrupt your routine too much you might just get away with it!! I'd think it would also depend on how much of the move you are doing yourselves or how much you're handing off to a removalist. We had sleepless nights any time I spent too much time unpacking and not paying attention to DD

Sorry, no practical advice, but that was the first thing that came to mind hehe

yeah we have booked a removalist - for sure!!!! Most things are packed just have to pack up last minute things that we are still using.... like computers, fridge stuff, kitchen stuff, bit of linen etc.... most cupboards are empty. We've done it gradually over 6 wks :D

We are paying cleaners to come in and clean so we don't have to do it!!!! Expensive but worth it we think. Otherwise be hard cleaning all day with DD needing me.

Sounds like there isn't really any tips to give?!? LOL!!! Just try and get thru it I guess.... *sigh* can't wait til we are all moved in. Such a BIG job.

We moved when DD was 10 1/2 months.

Food :D When moving we had a few takeaway meals on the day of the move and the day after (we did it ourselves though), so make sure you have stuff at the ready for DD in an esky, that way if you are busy shifting something or organising something someone else can grab DD meal.

DD slept in the portacot for only her middle of the day sleep, as we did her room first thing that morning, so it was already to go that night, but you may have a few days/weeks of resettling, as the house will be different and there will be different sounds etc. Our new house is a lot quieter and it took time for DD to resettle into a routine of sorts.

I moved with a 17 month old recently (she's now 20 months). We packed up her room last and set up her room first in the new house. Thankfully I had a few friends I could call on at short notice (like a few mins notice) to babysit.
I advise that it's best to get people to take her for a few hours so she's not getting upset or in the way. My DD was really stressed for a few days so I tried to avoid letting her see everything packed up and in a shambles.

We are also moving in about 3 weeks! eek!

Noah will be about 5 months when we move, so I am planning on keeping all the things I need for him together and putting them straight into the car (a packed bag of clothes, nappies, bouncer, playmat etc) so I dont have to wait at the other end for boxes to arrive.

I clean and fill all his bottles with water in the morning so they are all ready to go, a couple of them I will heat up and keep in a small esky so I dont have to worry about how to reheat them.

I have a port-a-cot for him to use, as well as his pram although I doubt he will sleep much that day with all the people around etc.

Once the boys arrive, my priority will be to get all the things I need for Noah organised first while they do everything else. He is a pretty relaxed bub, so he will be happy to watch all the goings on while sitting in his bouncer.

Generally though with moving (I have done it far to much) I find it easier to
-make sure I have lots of boxes
-dont over pack boxes, or have boxes that are to big.. they just get to heavy
-mark all boxes clearly
-dont mix up whats in the boxes for example dont mix bedroom stuff with lounger stuff, so much easier when it comes to unpacking.
-get as much as possible packed in boxes, in a spare room or shed ready to be go. Having them all in the one spot helps when you can just say everything in that room/shed is ready to go on the truck iykwim
-dismantal what you can before the day, i.e spare beds etc

umm thats about all for now! If I think of anything else I will pop back in : )

I really need to go do more packing!
