Alternative to crab...
I'm having a dinner party Friday week and the main is Crab-stuffed Chicken. I double checked yesterday as one of the ladies is pregnant and nope, she can't have Crab :(
So I don't know whether to change the whole main or just substitute the filling for her chicken? The filling is onion, celery and crab so could I put something else in for her? Maybe onion, celery and...?
Or maybe something totally different?? Does anyone have a yummy chicken recipe that is quite easy (gourmet chef I aint!)?
Any ideas?
TIA guys :)

how about onion, celery and bacon? or fill hers with a slice of camabert cheese and bacon and or garlic (if she likes garlic)?
-
So just a slice of cheese? How about if I wrap the cheese in prosciutto?? Hang on though can she have camembert??
-
ahh probably not ... let me think about it and get back to you

to have camambert it would need to be heated above sixty degrees - same as bacon and prosciuto.
-
Oooh really...that should be ok then...but she did say she wouldn't have crab so maybe the cheese and prosc??
Thanks!

i shoudl add that that is the recomendation for any 'cured' / deli meats and any soft cheeses (for listeriosis precautions) - she may still prefer not to if you know what i mean??

I thought you could have seafood and cream cheeses as long as they were cooked thoroughly in a hot oven? You could substitute seafood sticks for crab... they have a very similar flavour... and much cheaper! it's that white stuff with the red on the outside often used as a filler in prawn ****tails. Did you tell your friend that you were going to cook the crab? maybe she just doesn't like it?

Yep bathsheba that's what i was saying, needs to be cooked thoroughly and above sixty degress - out of food danger zone. can't be cold as it breeds to much bacteria and the like.

Hmmm ok. It's her first and she's very nervous and wants to stay away from anything she's not supposed to have...
Maybe i'll think of something totally different for us all to have thats got to be easier than doing a different meal for her.
Any ideas???

How about something like Chicken kievs then.
If she is really nervous avoid EVERYTHING on listeria list so no ham, seafood, soft cheeses etc (even thought most are fine if cooked some still will not eat them)
Another option is make a Lasagna, Roast, Lamb shanks, Rissotto
