my ob is inducing me in 5 weeks. What to expect.........

hi there. I am after positive thoughts nothing negative please...... My ob has recommended i be induced at 37/38 weeks as bubs is putting too much pressure on my lower back. This is due to me breaking it several years ago. It will be dangerous for me and bubs to go full term.... So how do they induce me? Ob will go through it with us both next appointment in 2 weeks. I was thinking of using our accupuncurist to induce me as we used it to conceive. When should i go back to see him? Would love to hear your replys xx b

Hi gals (B & C), no advice here on inducing experience other than my sister & friends that have been induced didn't have long labours which is super :dance: ... but i just wanted to say how great at least you know when you are going into hospital & that you won't be in the public standing in a queue somewhere having your waters break (that was always my concern, LOL :D ... but then knowing me i would have made found a way to laugh it off)

Why don't you ring your acupuncturist to find out what you can benefit from there, might make your mind up easier !!

(When you find out, are we allowed to know the date you are going in ?? ;))

hey beautiful lady, thanks for your kind words. I know that was my biggest fear my waters breaking in public. Glad to know that your sister and friends labour was short :) we will be keeping the date a secret, lol everyone loves a lil surprise :) hugs to you and miss C xx

... oh, that's brilliant that it's gonna be a super surprise ........... we didn't tell a sole when i went into hosp, everyone found out after Miss C was born, hee hee ... the squeals of delight & surprise from everyone on the phone was sooooooo darn worth it :dance::dance::dance: as the HAPPINESS just shined through everyone's voices ... some didn't know whether to laugh or cry from the joy it was the funniest thing, and after these years i still remember those squeals of JOY :D

... Bee just that in itself will be such a priceless gift you will both give yourselves :confetti:

i was induced - as i understand it, the process can differ depending on where you're at, so this isn't gospel! because i wasn't dilated much, they inserted tape at about 6pm & then monitored me overnight in hopistal - they checked things like DS' heartrate & movement etc. by 6am nothing much had happened so they took me off to a labour room to break my waters & put me on a synto drip - this was by about 8am.

some people find the breaking of waters to be painful, but i just found it uncomfy (bit like a pap smear sort of sensation). i won't lie, the contractions were FULL ON! but then again, it's my only exp of labour so they might always be like that! i got through to about 2-3pm before i said that i'd like some gas - i found it helped me.

i was hooked up to the drip & a monitor all the time but i was still able to wander around the room, go to the toilet etc. the midwives were very supportive of trying to find the most comfortable position & also wanted me to move around. i actually found lying on my back to be the most comfortable - the one position i'd hoped to avoid after reading much negativity about it! :lol:

i was planning to see my a/c a few days before i was due to be induced but accidentally made my appt for the following weekend, oops, too late! damn PG brain!! i think it would be worth a try but many a/c won't start induction a/c until you are at full term. it would be worth contacting them to find out what they might be able to help you with though?

my DS was born at 5.48pm on the same day so all up labour was under 12 hours. so while it was full on, it didn't go on indefinitely.

i read as much as i could beforehand & i think that helped - i was keen to avoid such a 'medical' labour & birth but seeing it was unavoidable, i felt that knowing as much as possible helped me to reconcile myself to it & also to be prepared for what would happen. i did end up having to have an epidural & a forceps delivery but i knew that was a big risk so was kind of prepared for the eventuality.

anyways, hope that isn't too negative - at the end of it you have a beautiful baby that makes it all worthwhile anyway :)

Not at all negative but very informative :) i just spoke to our a/c and he works very closely with my ob something i didnt know lol. I am going in next week so he can get my energies ready and as soon as my ob gives him the word he will start to induce me.

My first labour was induced due to being almost 2 weeks overdue. I was over it and apparently my uterus was contracting but I couldn't feel a thing.

My induction went well and the best thing were the midwives. I couldn't have asked for better. They told me everything and supported me in every decision I made. My DH was useless as he hates hospitals (his mother spent a lot of time in them before she passed away) but I knew this. The fact he was able to force himself to be there when hospitals make him physically ill was something I will always appreciate.

My suggestions are keep a positive mind and 'know' it will go well. Follow your bodies lead. Tell your support person what you need if you know at the time.

How they induce you will depend on how ready your body is. It could be gels, they could break your waters and put you on the syntocin (sp?) drip. My understanding there is a variety of ways so talk to your ob about what is the most likely.

It would be a good idea to ask what method Ob will use, maybe some are gentler than others? Will you have a choice of methods, I wonder? Just thinking out loud....

I was induced with both my children due to complications. With the first I had already been in hospital for 3 weeks and on the January 1 I was looked over by my OB and told the induction would start the following day. That night my waters broke on their own but by 9am there were no contractions.

They started me on the pitocin at around 9 and had an epidural at 10am. I could still feel a lot and ended up having him at 2.45 pm.

The second time I saw my OB on a Monday and was booked in for induction on Thursday because things weren’t getting better. Was in at the hospital at about 8am my waters hadnt broken (she did a membrane sweep on the Monday) so they did that with the little hook thing (sorry cant remember the name). Pitocin was put in and I had her at 11am without any pain relief.

The biggest frustration was limited movement due to the drip plus they had me constantly hooked up to the monitors (not sure if this was due to the induction, complications or a mix of both)

In both cases the drip was put in and the dose was increased until they were happy with the timing.

Can I suggest that you try EPO to help ripen your cervix to help with the induction.
