I think I want 3, DH only wants 2!

For a long long time I've always wanted 3 kids. To me it just seems right. Not too many that you have to upgrade to a bigger car, but just enough to feel like a big nice cozy family IYKWIM.

DH on the other hand has always only been keen on 2 kids, and worries about the financial impact of having 3.
After DD was born I began to agree as I had a pretty tough time in the early days and I started to doubt that i could cope with more than 2. Also I am a worry wart when it comes to finances :rolleyes:

But the niggling feeling is there. Deep down I still really want 3.
Anyone else had this issue with their DH, and how did you resolve it?

Either way I'd better get cracking ;) I'm nearly 33 and DD is already 2!

Ha, that could almost be me writing that! DD is 2 now and our ages aren't far off.

I can't give you any advice though, because the almost part is because I've changed my mind. I always, always, always wanted 3, but since DD and even now reflecting back on the baby years, I don't think I could do it too many more times! So, I've changed to two, which will match what DH wants too. But I still feel funny thinking that the next time I'm pregnant will be the last and I feel like I'll be hanging on to every moment!

I guess you just take them one at a time and work out whether you both want number three after number two arrives...

I am the opposite. I only want 2 and DH wants 3.

I have agreed to discuss it again in a couple of years as my youngest is only 15 months old. Personally I doubt I will change my mind but it depends on how important it is to DH and why he wants a third.

I am the same, wanting three. But I only decided that after having DD, since I enjoyed having her so much. DP has always wanted two, but is taking some convincing on even that, at the moment. So I think we'll see how we go after we get to number two and at the moment I've agreed to compromise at that. He's thinking of the practicalities around $$, me not working for a while, plus the extra stress that comes along with every new family member, etc. I don't think it would be fair for me to 'make' him have another child for no reason other than that my instincts are still ticking. ;) He has agreed if we ever win lotto I can have as many as I want!

Yes i know its not just the initial set up the costs money, u have kinder and school ect, but by the time number 3 would be going to school, i'd be back at work so it wouldnt be that bad.
i wonder how i'll cope with 3 but i think i'll b right, it would be the same as having one, u have good days and bad days, just gotta spread the love around more!

..ohhh babe, if only it were that easy. YOu wait till they start school....extra curriculam activities....birthday parties.....holidays......latest gadgets requested for xmas...:rolleyes:. It gets more expensive as they get older....defintely....
I know that urge...ive had it. Maybe discuss it in 6mths time...and in the meantime knuckle into your finances...have a set plan.....whilst the financial reason is boring for not having more kids;)...it defn makes sense......

DH was exactly the same! He's only ever wanted 2, which we've got. I wanted 4. Well I've just found out I'm expecting again, unexpectedly, so there's no way out of it now LOL

If you really want another, then keep discussing it.

Well a relative of mine wanted 3 and her hubby wanted 2.. they had one, then tried for their second and got twins!! Problem solved.. try for twins!! lol.. i know that really doesnt help..
