Tummy sleeping??
Hi, I have a 5 week old baby, our first one! He has been upset for a week or two, Colic symptoms. Pulls up his knees, crying in pain, then lets gas go and is okay for 20 mins or so, but this can continue for a few days. To get him to sleep at night I comfort him and then put him on his tummy on my chest, after a few rough days this is what helped him to have a decent sleep as he was exhausted from pushing out gas down below. Are they able to sleep on their tummies in a cot or bassinett? I know it is not recommened, but he seems more comfortable and settles better when he has these rough days. Any advice would be great. Have also changed teats, thought he may be getting too much air in.

helloooo... my dd was the same, the only place she would sleep was on her tummy on my chest, if that makes sense.... she absolutely screamed if ever layed on her back and could never go in the pram happily for this reason...
it wasn't until she was about 4 or 5 months old when i was at sleep school that she rolled onto her tummy and slept soundly... i was alarmed and asked the nurses if i should move her back onto her back, and they looked at me incredulously like 'why on earth would you do that if she is happy sleeping on her tummy??!!'.......
the sids guidelines are only that, GUIDELINES.... in the end you have to make the decision to do what is best for your baby.... if only i had known that in those newborn days i would have saved myself a lot of exhaustion and depression.... i'm due to have my second in 8 weeks and one thing i am confident in, is that if this baby doesn't sleep well on his back, i will definitely try tummy sleeping in a heartbeat... if it works then that is the way he will sleep...
i'd just experiment and do whatever works... if you are super worried about tummy sleeping you could always buy one of those movement monitors that sounds some sort of alarm if they stop breathing or something like that....
good luck and hope you can find a position he is more happy in :-)

Hi Lizzy,
im a mummy of a SIDS baby. Lilli was 5mths 1wk when she passed. She didn't sleep on her belly, but she did sleep on her side :( I am forever kicking myself about this. It honestly was the worst day in my life the day i found her and would not wish it uppon anyone!! I have meet a wonderful lady from SIDS, and she lost her little boy at 6wks old. She had put him on his belly, just for his day sleep, cause of wind issues to. Although the SIDS reccomendations are a guideline, they are a very good one, that do help prevent bubs from passing.
My little girl atm has horrible wind to. Im sometimes giving her some infacol drops, doing lots of bicycle motions with her legs, i also let her sleep on my chest during the day.
Anyway i thought i would tell you this before you decide.
