Is this right? Jetstar qn...

I am booked to come down to Melbs to meet with the lovely BB May mummies and babies (hooooooraaaaaay!!!) this weekend.
I booked my flights a couple of months ago and back then Phoebe wasn't so heavy, so I just assumed I'd carry her all day. I therefore chose a Jetsaver Light ticket (no check-in luggage).
I just rang them then to find out what it would cost me to bring a stroller. They informed me that they check on infant belongings for nothing (i.e. strollers, port-a-cots etc.)
However, I'm not convinced the guy understood that I only have a jetsaver light ticket and am therefore not entitled to any luggage space in the hold?
Does anyone know if the information I've been given is correct? Would they really let me check on a stroller for nothing if I've got a no-check-in-luggage ticket?

Just going from memory here, but yes, I think that's right. We definitely took a stroller on our trip to Melb back in Jan. No extra cost for that.

Without working there or being an expert I think you'll be ok!

Yep, that'd be right.
They carry your pram for free. We have done it before when we have paid for the allocated luggage and they don't count it in your allocated kg's.
Depending on your stroller, prob wouldn't hurt to get it wrapped or packaged to avoid damage.

Bub's don't get "charged" for their luggage, would cover prams/stollers, portacots, car seats :D

yes, it sure is right. most airlines will allow a few things for bubs for free as you don't pay for them anywho. If you had booked a "no check in luggage" ticket for an over 2yr old then you would prob be charged or not allowed it. But she's free anyway.

I flew with virgin blue a few weeks ago and yet you can check things for bubs for free. That doesn't count babies clothes though but on bpard you would be allowed ur 7kg or whatever they allow you for carry on andd your handbag and a nappy bag

I'm going to double check before I leave on Friday but expecting them to say no. I had to pay a 'fee' for the privilege of holding my 3 mo on my lap the whole flight. So basically had to buy him a ticket. Never flying with them again (I didn't book the flights, a friend booked them).

I've flown with Jetstar and Virgin and they've both carried luggage for bub for free, as they should IMO.

Unfortunately that didn't surprise me, but I am very sorry it has happened to you, espeically as it wouldn't have been expected, as with all other airlines in Oz children under 2 fly free if they are on your laps :(

Friends got $5 or $10 fares with Tiger when they first started, but they had to pay $50 (each way) for their son to sit on their laps, were not allowed to buy him a $5 seat :rolleyes:

Willow, I almost booked a flight with Tiger as they were cheaper, but then I saw the charge for the baby and thought, "stuff you!" LOL.
Thanks SS :) I had a read. I think the difference is that my ticket doesn't include any checked baggage. I am not entitled to any space in the hold according to their rules, but can buy a space subject to availability. Hence my surprise at being told I can have space and what's more it'll be free...

Amy, just wondering how you ended up going with the stroller? Was it definitely free? I've booked the same sort of ticket to the Gold Coast in just over a months time and then thought that I should take the pram. It would be great if it could go on for free. Then I won't have to try to ration DH's luggage to fit all of our clothes and DS's stuff, because he won't have to include the pram in his allotment.

Oh, also, do you happen to know if a pram is classed as different to a stroller/pusher? I'd hate to get there and get told the pram is too big and therefore I have to pay :/

Yep, Krystie, it was free. Baby items are free (with a limit of 2 or 3 items, I think - don't know for sure as I only had the one item), so it shouldn't matter what type of pram you have. They will take port-a-cots and car seats, so I wouldn't think your pram would be much heavier than those.
The staff were absolutely brilliant, I have to say. Even when I missed the shuttle out to Avalon and got there after check-in had closed, they still put the stroller on the plane for me and they were super helpful when I was soooooo flustered and upset! Can't give them a big enough thumbs-up.
Hope your staff are just as lovely as mine were!
