Bit of a dilemma!

Hi everyone
I've just found out that our work xmas dinner is on the 19th of December, which happens to be DS 2nd birthday.
I'm really tossing up whether or not to go as, firstly, we don't get many nights out together so i always look forward to this, but i really don't want to leave DS on his birthday either.
I know he's probably not going to know it's his birthday, but I do and don't know whether I'd get over the mummy guilts if I went.
So I guess what I'm asking is would you leave your DS/DD on their birthday at that age, with their grandparents for the night or would you just not go?

As this pregnancy is my first bub, I'm not speaking from experience when I say this, I just wanted to note that before I begin !

Personally I think that while you are a major major part of your darling child's life, so are grandparents and other family members ! You can spend all day doing birthday celebrations, and then other family members can help celebrate his birthday that night while you are at the christmas party.

I don't know what it's like to feel mummy guilts, but I think that your son will have a lovely birthday even if you aren't with him the entire day. :)

Firstly, does your DS stay up late!? Do you intend on having birthday celebrations for him during the day, or a party? I honestly, would go to the Xmas party. As you say, you don't get to go out that often so why not make the most of it. You can use it as a celebration that you became a mother 2 years ago and YAY for you! I'm sure you will have pleanty of fun and other celebrations with your DS and that will make him feel special....but really, what do 2 year olds do at night...sleep! Go out and enjoy :)

You can do both! I would, the little tacker will be worn out with excitement so should sleep well whilst you are out.

I'd be inclined to have a cake or small party at luchtime.
Then hit the town and enjoy yourself!:dance:

We moved cities the week of my DD2's birthday. We just held it a week early so she could spend it with her friends. She was none the wiser.

We were planning on having a lunchtime birthday bbq with all our family anyway, so most of the celebrations would be during the day regardless of whether we were going out at night or not!

Julia, you raised a good point, DS will be in bed for the majority of the time we'll be out anyway, I'll just miss out on putting him to bed!

And Sammi, your post was sweet and raised another good point about other family members being part of his birthday too, thank you all!
