Swoon Over SilverCross Prams With Me!

My youngest child is almost out of his pram... so this is totally wishful thinking... but in another life I would have loved to have had a SilverCross pram. Pictured HERE (FaceBook photo)

There is a mum at my DS's school who has a vintage one... it is beautiful... sadly people just assume you're being hoity toity by loving these prams... to me they are more like loving vintage cars... a ride down memory lane when people generally walked to where they needed to go... prams didn't need to be compromised to fit in with your car etc.

*sigh*

I watch Tori Spelling's reality show on Arena and she gets her babies around alot of the time in a huuuuuuge silvercross pram, it's so gorgeous.
I'd look hilarious pushing one around though cause I am only 154cm tall LOL..

...i too am a secret lover of these old school prams...if only i could of justified the expense...

i did see a vintage steelcraft with baby blue lining in it in a Op shop in castlemaine last year....sooo bummed that i didnt push DH harder to buy it!!!

SilverCross still make Doll size prams like the one pictured! They have them on their web site.

Oh I love Silver Cross prams!!! So much so that I bought a SC before having DS, albeit a much more modern looking one :). It has been fantastic! But I do love those old ones, they are devine.

*drools* oh they are lovely... bet they would glide over the uneven city pavements, and carry a nights groceries in the bottom perfectly...

At the risk of making you jealous Bath, we have a modern SC too!! My DH's granddad brought it for us and had it shipped from England for DD when I was pregnant. It is big but soooo good when you are out for the day and it was great when she was born it was her bassinette!!

My DD slept in a vintage silvercross pram! My brothers and I slept in it as babies 30 years ago! It was a really lovely little connection to have my daughter in the 'family' pram. Mum was over the moon. It really is a special pram.

I don't know what to do with it after we have this baby though, we have nowhere to store it :(

Nah, not jealous... it would be great to see more around.... it would mean people are gaining some sense! Too many cheap and nasty poorly made prams around... i know people often can't afford any better but a pram like a SilverCross would last many many more babies than a cheap and nasty one... therefore not wasting the world's resources... people could pass them on from generation to generation too. I know my DD will probably get use out of my Emmaljunga. Anything that reduces demand on the worlds resources makes me happy.

I think the price is about equal to a secondhand small car... but people pay 2 grand to carry 1 bub (I can't see a Bugaboo lasting as long as a SilverCross) so I guess you should price a pram by how many babies it carries. I know of many prams that break/wear out before it has even finished carrying 1 :(

ETA: the Silvercross site doesn't list prices...but I found another site that sells them... seem to hover around the 300 pound mark for the heritage models (the big old fashioned looking ones)... what does that convert to???

As I was saying to you in another thread Bath, my bestie has a 20 yr old Emmalunja that has been used for her kids, her sisters kids, my ds and will probably be used for her grandkids. Well worth the money :)

ETA- FWIW, my pram is a cheap and nasty Steelcraft but I've used it almost ever day for two years and it's still going strong *touches wood* Money for usage, it's been great value...

The prices are quite outrageous, glad I got the hand me down!

In an effort to balance out all of the love for the silvercross - maybe this will make you feel better with the prams you have ;)

With regards to usefulness, they certainly do have great suspension and would carry a decent load in the basket but I only got use from mine for a few short months. The sides of the pram are so shallow that it is not really safe to have a baby in them for too long. Also, mine doesn't have straps to keep a baby safe inside (Mum was given it in the 70's not the best time for safety - probably around the time seatbelts were not a necessity in cars :rolleyes:) Modern ones might have straps but still, I am not sure how an older bub would go sitting in one when they are so shallow.

they had one in the baby shop in ballarat omg its divine but yeah living here i dont know how it would do and wat do u do with a toddler wont they want to sit up?
