due dates 4 weeks apart this time...

well with my first the lmp date and the scan date were 3 weeks apart. lmp date was 3rd sept, went into labour the 5th and gave birth the 7th (scan date was the 21st sept)
i had a good doctor who went with my lmp date as she said the dates were too far apart.

this time my lmp date is the 24th may next year and my scan date is the 22nd june... but i live over an hour away from where i used to live and the doctor i went and saw this time wants to go with the scan date. (this time i am breastfeeding a 14 month old but had 3 regular periods before my lmp)

my main concern is - what if i didn't go into labour naturally and the placenta stops being good enough - or is that not going to happen? could you ever not go into labour or do all women go into labour eventually when its time?? i should know this being my second pregnancy but i had such a good dr last time i didn't have to really even think about it. sorry if i sound really dumb and thanks for your advice in advance!!

Do you have any idea when you ovulated??? This would give you a more accurate EDD. From my LMP, i would be 12+ weeks, but I know when I O'ed, and I am going from that which makes me 8+3 weeks.

Also, your fundal height measurements should give you a better idea of your weeks. Or you could aim for the first date, and be monitored more closely after that day to check for plancental failure, which is pretty rare anyway. remember, pregnancies go 42+ weeks with no problems for the bub....

thanks shelly for your advice, my best friend had a stillbirth the week before my first baby was born - something to do with the placenta (i think it tore away though?) so i guess that's making me extra paranoid too

oh and I don't know when I ovulated either!!

i would go by your later date.
you have gone into labour before so i doubt you will have a problem this time, by going by your later date you are less likely to have interventions..

yes - do you know when you ovulated? Counting 38 weeks from ovulation is more accurate than counting 40 weeks from lmp - as most women (especially breastfeeding) do not have exactly 14 days (2 weeks) between lmp date and ovulation date. My midwife recommended against getting a dating scan with my last pregnancy, as I knew the exact date of ovulation, and she said that this was more accurate than the lmp and scan combined.

I think its probably a positive thing that your scan date is after your lmp date anyways - as this means there will be less pressure on you to induce if you go post EDD - which we all know is just an estimate at best anyways. Scan dates change (are usually brought forward) with each successive scan - so you will probably find they get closer to your lmp date with each scan anyways.
The innate wisdom of Mother Nature, your body, and the baby combined is a trillion times more knowledgable about when labour should start then all the medical professionals in the world combined. Unless of course there is a serious medical reason for intervening, birth is always safest when left to nature. The baby, your body and mother nature couldn't care less about arbitrary timetables set by external doctors or medical scanning equipment. Birth is a spiritual event and sometimes i think the powers that be purposely avoid the 'due date' just to remind everyone whos boss - iykwim? The true incidence of placenta breakdown is EXREMELY rare - many women end up with unessessary interventions because of scaremongering about this rare condition.
Having given birth before - I think you can rest assured that your body especially knows when the right time to birth is this time, and will get the ball rolling when mother nature gives the cue. Its not possible for anyone to know the true due date so just roll with it and enjoy the ride - and most importantly -
Trust in your body!!
