RSVPing - If you say yes then go! Is this just me??

I'm having a party tomorrow afternoon and nearly everyone that rsvp'ed that they were coming has now said they can't come!
Seriously...it's it just me who thinks if you RSVP yes to an event you should go unless there is some extenuating circumstance?!!!??? I can't think of anything that i've just decided that oh i don't feel like that today, i'm not going to go - and i'll be the first to admit there have been times where i've been sick or DD or DH have been so sick that I need to be at home, or other family things have come up and I can't attend, but I don't not go just because I don't feel like it.
Theres all the organisation and catering that goes into a party, people don't ask for an RSVP because they think it's a fun thing to do.

These aren't Gen Y friends are they? Apparently we're the worst for that :redface: Either not rsvping or not committing til late or changing our minds if a better offer comes up. Shockers! I try not to, because I know how annoying it is...but sometimes I still do!

How RUDE... if you have said your going then yes you should go... Just as bad as those who say they arent going then just show up anyway...

Yes it annoys me too!! Obviously if they are genuinely sick or whatever then fair enough but if they just decide 'oh don't feel like going out today' then yeah that sucks.... :hug:

Hope it works out for you. Especially when you put all that effort into organising it with food etc....

Oh yes! RSVP's (or lack of RSVP'ing) is my pet hate. If you say you are going, then go unless you have a very good reason.

I also hate how people don't RSVP or just say "maybe". Look in your calendar and make a decision. You either can make it or not. People only say maybe just in case something better comes up. Non-committers! I hate chasing people up too!

Yes, I have learnt the hard way never to depend on people when it comes to parties. I don't know how many children's parties I have hosted that involved rsvping and only a few said they could come... the rest just turned up on the day!!! Lucky I over cater.

These days i assume that no one will come or everyone will come. I only buy food that i can freeze and use myself if no one comes.

I am feeling more and more old fashioned every day. Yes, if I say I will be somewhere I actually am unless I am majorly ill, death in family, or another extreme unexpected occurance crops up.

Actually when i think about it most of my real friends are this way as well, regardless of age.

ETA: oh and I don't chase people up... if they haven't told me one way or another then they can run the risk of upsetting me... I'm not going to beg.... it's their loss.

OMG - How annoying!!!!!!! I don't know about others, but to me this not only shows a lack of respect but also (For me) a lack of how much a friendship is valued. Especially if they do it on a regular occasion.

One of the ppl not coming tomorrow is a friend who had a girls night in not that long ago...now while i was still REALLY sick with m/s and had been vomiting pretty much all day i still managed to go even if it was only for 2 hours instead of the whole night! I at least made an appearence! I don't care if people don't stay...at least make an appearence.

have they said why they can not come now??
at least they have told you they wont be coming(even though rsvping they would) imagine how you would feel tomorrow if no one came and you didnt know why..

Hmmm. I'm a bad RSVPer. I'm a last-minute one, but I don't change my mind. I will give an INTENTION: we want to come/we may not be able. But due to DH's job, we don't know until a month in advance. For going out to dinner, not usually a problem. A wedding, more of a problem.

My sister and her mates make about four arrangements for one evening then pick the one they want the most or the one that hasn't been cancelled for better plan. That's the norm for them and it's accepted. I was horrified when she told me that she'd had three texts cancelling when she spent an evening with me: if they hadn't have cancelled she'd have cancelled them. OK so I was top but even so!

i rsvp'd yes to a party (albeit a friend i havent seen in yrs so i thought she wouldnt care either way) and DD was at XPs and she got sick so i went over to XPS instead and didnt bother letting her know i couldnt make it...then she called me F and C words all over facebook. classy...

but usually if its a casual gathering i say no (my BPD brings me down so 90% of the time i dont go out) but sometimes it changes to a yes on the nite :)

Far out, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I just finished cleaning up from my tupperware party tonight - that noone came to. No calls/texts/emails, just 4 people on my FB event who said they were coming then didn't show up :(

LOL Emma, I saw that on your FB :) Can understand your reasoning too though, her reaction made me think noone else came either...
