I used to suffer terribly from me. Apparently they are caused by some sort of deficiency, my midwife recommended drinking more milk which helped me but others have found various supplements to be more beneficial.
In the meantime try keeping a lavender massage oil near your bed and give your legs a wee massage to relieve the pain when you wake in the night. It should help you get back to sleep too.

Ooooh poor you. I can sympathize. I got those a lot in my first pregnancy, they are soooo painful. The only thing that helped me was to get up and walk around on the cold tile floor and stretch it out.
Calcium tablets should fix that up for you. I lived on tums for indigestion during my pregnancy (main ingredient calcium) and I didn't get cramps at all. I also didn't feel any BH & that could be due to using them as they are a great treatment for period cramps.
I got them too and they were awful. I was told they were caused by a deficiency in calcium and potassium and to have a glass of milk and a bananna before bed. It worked a treat for me, I never got one when I remembered to do it.
Awww I feel for you! They're HORRIBLE aren't they?! I had them constantly really badly until my Midwife put me onto Magnesium Tablets - After about 3 days of taking them my leg cramps were completely gone, has been about 10 weeks since my last screaming in pain 2am wake up call now! Has laos heard about he glass of milk & banana before bed for your calcium & potassium - Healthy habit to get into as well!! Good luck!! xox
Careful on the salt levels - our everyday food is so full of salt it's not easy to be deficient.
Calcium and potassium are the way to go. You can get it in powder form from health food shops and its worth getting for muscle recovery after birth too.
Actually Lulu it is easy to be defficient. Maybe not for everyone, but for some it is, and it's worth checking. I am, and I have to add salt to my diet, as well as eating high salt foods.
Might be best to check levels first - (is that possible Jodi?) before adding it - too much salt can balls up your muscles as well.
DER - I mean will they check the levels just for leg cramps?
Thank you girls for the advice!!! I am going to try the banana and milk first. If that doesnt do the trick then i will probably go to my gp and he might put me supplements.
thanks alot.:D
HATE them lol
they are the worst i would wake up screaming in tears.
nothing seemed to fix them for me i drank lots of water ate bananas had mag and calcium nothing made a diff
when u get one stand up and move ur leg as laying still will make it worst
dont point ur toes down at night when u stretch and if u feel ur leg tightening at night which means its leading into a cramp make sure u move ur leg wriggle it straight away
I take one of my son's long soccer socks to bed with me that way if I get a cramp I hook the sock around my foot and stretch it back that way. I find that I can't jump up out of bed quick enough at this stage of pg, I end up rolling around like a whale trying to get up and into a good position to stretch it out:lol: The sock works well.
With DD I got terrible leg cramps through the night and even recently said to DH I really hope I don't get them again this time, they were aweful!
I'm sorry I don't know how to stop them but I do hope they stop for you soon.
Take care
