I just changed my DD nappy and for the first time ever, she had black spots like poppy seed size. Has anyone seen this before? It's definately not normal for her. I have still got the nappy and i checked out one of the black spots and it's not hard it's more flat like squashed. My concern was that could it be dried blood?
She is 17 wks today, exclusively breast fed and takes Losec for reflux.

Yes black spots in poo can indicate blood but dont freak until u talk to a doc. Ring the nurse on call sweety, heres the number 1300 60 60 24

I rang health direct and they suggested I take her to a doctor. I have the nappy still and we are seeing a doctor at 3pm (in half an hour). I'm not sure that anything will come from it as I've not heard good reports from this new doctor but fingers crossed.

Well as I thought, not much from it. Dr said it was weird and she didn't know what it was "but it wouldn't be blood" so I asked again what it could be and she offered to send some poo from nappy to the lab. She used the jar to scrape some in but the nappy was bout 3.5hrs old and I don't know that she got any black spots. Then charged me $40 out of pocket expenses for my 5 mins grrr. She has done another one since being home with black spots again so will keep eye on her. Thanks for your concerns. Wish I had answers.
This morning's poo was the same... full of black spots through it. Then I just changed her nappy again and was only a small poo which had a bit of the yellow mustard colour but also green mucous clumps and some of the dried spots not too many but this time there were also some on her bottom, which to me seemed like dried blood. Grrrr Wish I knew what was going on as neither of these are normal for her.
personally i would take it to hospital and ask them only cause i rather know for sure than not know and it sounds like the dr wasnt giving u any information that eased your mind there and then. It may be nothing or it could be iron or something but i like to know from somone who can say a reason with out doubt good luck xoxo:hug:
I have had the same although I would have said very dark brown rather than black spots, at around the same age and still get occasionally - I am sure I read somewhere was fine, as I have not done anything about it - will see if can recall where I read it. I never thought they looked particularly like blood though, but did wonder why most is mustard yellow why certain bits dark.

A: The stools of your child are normal. You must wait till your baby is 6 months before you give any outside food.
