DH has a very low sperm count and we we're extremely fortunate to fall pregnant naturally after 20mths ttc and had a emergency c-section. both of us are optimistic and would like to give ttc a go again before we decide if we need ivf. if we ttc when ds is 12 mths old and we're fortunate to fall pregnant straight away, ds would be 21 mths old. is this a big enough time gap between caesareans. i know realistically it prob won't happen this quickly but i have to think of everything.. thanks
I have had c sections 15 months apart and no issues, not recommedned though!!!! it is just how it happened, i think about 18months to 2 years is fine.
My Dr said there was no need to wait before TTC again unless I wanted to try for a VBAC. In that case, he said he recommends 2 years in between births.
I don't think there is any real consensus on it at all. Megan's doctor is different to mine... mine told me at least a year before conceiving (and that is exactly what is happening - bub #2 due when Jett is 21 months) and that is an acceptable gap. I am also looking at a VBAC and he has no issues with that at all.
I know Arimeh's doctor told her that all the healing is done in 3 months so she could conceive from then onwards, and I think she conceived when one was 9 months and the other was 7 months (I could be wrong, it is late and I have preggy brain). Her first 2 were both c/s.
So, my thoughts based on all the differing opinions out there, if you do conceive straight away ( I hope you do!!) that it will be just fine, and if your doctor doesn't agree, then you only have to go and find another doctor!! :rolleyes:
A dr told me that the scar will be healed in 6 months and cannot get any more "healed" with time so anytime from 6 mnths onwards. But it seems everyone is different. I think it also depends how well you were sewn up afterwards and if the dr put you back together well or not. When I had my 2nd CS the attending told me afterwards that the first CS scar was really well done and the previous Dr had done a good job.
thank you for your replys. i think most of the research i've looked at says you can safely ttc after 12 mths, so i think we will do that. i will be booked in for a c-section this time, so as for looks my scar looks fantastic and i got a wonderful surgeon so i think the scar will be fine. thank-you for your help
I have a friend who had 2 c/s in 12 months, then the 3rd 18 months later, so 3 in 2.5 years. She was told to give it at least 5 years before trying again. I think it was 4, lol.
I had 2 c/s 11 months apart without any problem. Thoough my ob kept a close eye on me for the first 6 months.
my first 2 c/s were 18months apart and because I went into early labour at 34 weeks (which was stopped) my c/s scar tore internally and bruised badly. It was like this until I had my reversal 3 1/2 yers later
I had a tubual reversal, then a c/s 11 months later and then another c/s 16 motnhs after that.
I have never been told to wait pitty if I was though :ROFL:
I was also told to wait 12 months before conceiving so that it would be close to two years after that I went into labour. But I do think it is more important if you are planning a VBAC, I think if you are planning a CS it isn't as important (but I'm definately not an expert). GL
