Hi All,
I take DD to the pools sometimes and the pool is heated, no problem. However, when I take her out she is shivering and turns blue! Even with a towel around her. Is this okay or will she risk catchign a cold?
So far she hasnt caught a cold but i dont want any long term damages or having a chance DD will get sick

wel my kids have always gone blue when they get out of a pool or even a bath at times, they have never gotten a cold from been blue... we just worm them up... poor DD1 gets so cold all the time that she has to lay on the hot ground just to warm up her body again, but she is a tiny skin and bones girl... this happens even when we live in Darwin and Cairns... DD1 also has raynards ( sp?) so it explanes why she is always so cold, is one of the main reasons we live in the tropics, it better for her up here..
if your really worried about ask your health nurse, she will let you know if there is anything to worried about...
Are you sure the temperature of the pool is warm enough for her?
Maybe whip her straight into a nice hot shower as soon as she is out?

She's fine in the pool but its when she gets out she is shaking soo soo much even when we are waiting for the shower to get warm and also she doesnt like showers much so its hard to wash her down too.
Your post remembered me of my swimming lessons when I was little; I was always cold, blue and shaking to the point of my teeth clattering. I don't think I ever got a cold from it and it didn't bother me too much that I remember. Maybe you can just get her in a towel in the sun to warm up a little or take a warm drink in a thermos and give her that when she comes out of the pool? HTH
My DD also gets cold, sometimes while we're still in the pool! We've been having lessons for a couple of months now and she's only had one cold which I really put down to the weather going hot n cold. I just have her towel ready to wrap her in as quickly as possible when we get out and we go in to the family change room and have a shower. They do get used to showers pretty quickly! :) My DD wants to come in every morning now cause she's gotten to like them after swimming :doh: The showers at swimming come off and can be held so maybe give your DD the shower head to hold and when she sees she has some 'control' of the water she'll love it!! My 8yo DS shivers like mad. Poor kid looks like he is going to shake himself over while he's waiting his turn to jump in at the deep end during his lesson. Maybe some are more prone to it than others :dunno: I know I am a shiverer too but DH isn't.

Yup DD shivers like mad, like her knees are knocking into each other and mega quick pace!!!!!
Unfortunately the shower headsd dont come off at our local pool and she still has issues with showering.
My girls are always shivering when we get out of the pool. They've never caught a cold from it.
If DD is spending a long period in the pool I suggest not putting her under anything more than a lukewarm shower. The blueness is a sign that her bloodflow is being concentrated around the core for heat preservation, and by using hot water afterwards, the capillaries near the surface expand, warm blood from the core rushes back and remaining heat is rapidly lost. So in other words, even though the hot shower feels awesome, the body thinks it sucks. A nice lukewarm shower and some thick clothing afterwards is the best plan. Hope that helps.
