best wipes for nappy rash

What are the best wipes you've used when your baby has had nappy rash.

DD is teething, and we have here the first bout of real, honest-to-goodness nappy rash that we've seen. Not a bit red in the creases, which we've seen often enough, but red all over, everywhere that the nappy touches her skin. I assume it's because of the teething. Certainly the teething is a new thing.

She's doing a zillion little runny poos too. Which is part of the problem.

She's now so sore (poor darling!) that she cries when I wipe her bottom. I've tried the cotton and bamboo cloth wipes we normally use (too rough), and the disposable wipes we use occasionally (softer, but they have more chemicals and I doubt that's good). Everything hurts her.

What is the best way you've found of cleaning a rashy bum without hurting it more?

Hey tenar, have you tried the huggies new one with shea butter, i had the same problem dd had a rash which just wouldnt budge and the switch to those wipes and using this cream called Desitin it cleared up really fast xx Hth

id use just cotton wool and warm water

I just use a cotton ball and cool water on DS and it works really well. I started off using wipes and he started to get nappy rash in the first week, so we switched to the cotton balls and haven't looked back, 5 months on we still haven't had nappy rash.

Yup use water and cotton wool, it's kinder to baby's red bum. Also try using Pawpaw oitment on it, fabulous stuff.

Water / cotton ball. And if really bad, then PineTar Sol diluted will clean it up fast. Lots of nappy-free time in the outside air, a little bit of sunlight on it will help.

If using paw-paw ointment, use the yellow tube, not the red (the red has petrochemical base). Also canestan powder will help keep the rash dry during summertime sweat ...

i can see everyone has different remedies for bum rash, i cant give any advice on wipes, but "Nappy Mate" ..... IS THE BEST BUM CREAM!!!!! its the olden day style zinc paste, i got recommended it whilst staying in the MBU and its bloody amazing, put it on at night and rash (even bad bad rash) is gone by the morning. i cant recommend it enough!!!! its about $8 at chemists in a white tub. HTH

no commercial ones-- use cloth or cotton wipes and water.

ETA: if everything hurts maybe you need to bathe ifs its dirty nappy or try splashing water?

nappy off as much as possible, and the highest zinc nappy cream you can get, daktozin or desitin

I use sorbolene & soft flannel squares to clean DDs bum and I find it great, gets everything off cleanly & soothes at the same time.
