Where does it go from here? (PCOS)

I went and had an ultrasound earlier this afternoon because my doctor thought that my cysts had returned on my ovaries.
Much to my suprise there are no cysts BUT the ultrasound guy counted about 50 follicles on my left ovary (he stopped counting at 50 LOL) but he told me there was way more than 50, and it was the same on my right.
He also told me some of the symptoms that go along with PCOS (extra hair, weight gain, irregular bleeding etc) which i have all of them... extra hair on my hairline (lucky) have had my period every 2 weeks for the last 3-4 months and also gained a tiny bit of weight.

So my question is what happens from here? i know i have to go back and see my GP but then what?

There is treatment for PCOS. I got diagnosed with it in February this year as our IUI treatment wasn't working. They put me on some medication called metformin. I was on the medication for approx 1 month and then we tried another IUI treatemetn and conceived our lil boy who is due in just over 2 weeks.

I have PCOS without cysts. I have also been prescribed to help with the symptoms of PCOS. Yes, Metformin has side effects, you have to wean yourself onto metformin (Diaformin) otherwise side effects (running to bathroom every 5 mins) will get to you. If you start on 1/4 of a tablet for a week then move to 1/2 tablet for a week then 1 tablet etc etc until your dose you should be ok, thats what my GP recommended and it worked. Also I was recommended if not TTC to go on the pill
Dianne that may help too for me to balance my hormones, maybe worth asking your GP about that? not sure if it helps with PCOS symptoms though. Hope this helps.

I have PCOS too. It took me 8 months on metformin (in the form of Diabex XR). As Mishca said, it does have side effects. My doctor advised me to take 1/2 then 1 then 1/1/2 & so on increasing the dose every 3 weeks. I had to stop at 2 because any more then that & I felt really sick.
Prior to TTC, I was on the pill but I found that didn't really help with the weight issue but it did help with acne & controlling my cycle. I tried many types of pill but I've always come back to Brenda because of the acne issue. That is the pill my doctor originally recommended.

Hi i am a long timer PCOS I was diagnosed 13 years ago. I tried the pill i was put on Diane i think as it is a mini pill and dint effect me to much. I was put on metforin to help with some of my Pcos side effects a couple of years ago. I am alos insulin resistant which seems to go hand in hand with PCOS. I found that the Metformin tends to effect my sugar levels and If i miss a meal or snack i tend to go light headed. However my mood is controled better on metformin then it is with the pill.

hey there, i was diagnosed with having PCOS in June. My doctor put me on Metformin which i only did for 3 months (diabex XR) but he didnt tell me to ease into it so i had horrible side effects: stomach cramps, vomitting, nausea and headaches but it went away after 2 weeks. I was also put on the pill Yasmin, my doctor said its new and they use for women with PCOS but i found the dose of estrogen too much as it caused migraines and really sore boobs so i was told to go on levelin ED which i should have done because the metformin made me really fertile and here i am 7 weeks pregnant :lol: but am so thrilled about it. The metformin will also help with losing some of the weight that hasnt budged. Unfortunately theres not too much else you can do as there is no cure only treatment.

hi jus wondering if the medication has any side effects,i was diagnosed with pcos when i was 13 years old and have had to live with it,i would like to no wat to try as i would love to have kids very much in the future,i am 19 now and was just diagnosed with endometriosis,alana

I too was dx young at 13 due to not having regular af and very painful.

I was started on metformin but it was still in a trial stage in the US at that time and became very ill from it.

I have been on and off it for years, we have a love hate relationship. I am not currently taking it and got a BFP (i know that is not what you are looking for right now)

The best way to manange (if you can) is with diet, the metformin really does help with teh weight gain which has a roll on effect with the other symptoms.

I have noticed that since becoming pg and not taking my metformin i have got more hair in places it has not been before! (namely my chin)
