Tell Me What I Want!
So I have been looking at bassinetts/hammocks etc & need some feeback to help me decide what to buy!
There was just no options around when Luke was born almost 12yrs ago - and DH has a standard opinion on everything re baby furniture etc which is ''Whatever you want to get, baby'' ... not much help
When I had Luke, we had a cot in his room & a cradle in my bedroom for the first few months - the cradle had special meaning as my grandfather who has now passed made it for my mum when she was pregnant with me.
My dad stripped it back & re-did it when I had Luke, but in our new house, we just don't have the room in our bedroom :( (Its pretty big, bigger than a standard size cradle/bassinett, I had to get a mattress made for it with Luke).
We'll have it in the baby's room to use otherwise, so I want something for our room - preferably that will go in the corner, so I'm looking at hammocks.
From what I can gather, it looks as though the 2 main ones that everyone recommends are the Hushamok & the Amby? (Any others please feel free to fill me in ;))
Would love some feedback on these - lots of people raving about both!
I've looked online & will check out in the stores during the week.... Probably another thing to keep in mind is that I'm not really into the ultra modern designs of the prams/furniture etc (like the bugaboo prams for example) - I really should have been born a lot earlier than my time as I like the classic look! (We're getting an Emmaljunga pram for example).
Some of the new nursery equipment looks to me like it should be on an episode of Star Trek
Either way, I'll get it in a neutral colour - so really just want to know what everyone has/wishes they had etc etc.... you guys are the experts & its been a while since I've done this ;)
Thanks in advance :D

we got a hammock for E - and she wasn't a fan (so if you want one to try - let me know - it's here, unused - all it will cost is the shipping to get it there!). it's an amby - let me know babe.

Thanks for the reply, BG ;)
Thanks so much for the offer, but DH is determined to buy everything for this baby - and is way too keen to get started ;) but thanks so so much... I'll let you keep it to be ready for when you think about TTC#2
''Oh my'' after the thread about the Amby hammock recall!
Had to happen on the same day as I posted too!!!
The amby was the one I was leaning towards- but have to say it won't deter me anyway... i was looking at the packages you can buy & I don't think I'd use a hammock without the cuddle snuggler anyway... I know not so easy to use when bubs gets older but I was thinking of using the hammock up until rolling stage anyway & then moving into the cot if not a little before then....
Am hoping my reposting will also bump this thead as well, as nobody seems to have any thoughts on hammocks for me ;)

Hi Holly.
Sorry I didn't see this post earlier :)
I used an Amby Hammock for Jack (I hired it). I didn't get it till he was about 10 weeks old, He was only in it for 6 months, as by then he could bounce it till it almost touched the floor (yes, he's a hypo child, lol) and I was worried about him rolling over in it.
They are the best thing ever!!! If I ever have another I will be getting a hammock.

Holly, how exciting for you guys picking out new stuff after all this time :) It certainly is like being a parent for the first time again isn't it, so many new exciting things that you are not sure if they are things you need or just want or even don't need hey.
We did the bassinette with DS, mainly because we knew i was having another c/s and i didnt want to be leaning over the portacot at mum and dads and then the cot once we got home. DH was home for the first month, but went back to work on nightshift, so we needed something that i could access easily by myself in the middle of the night, plus also being able to wheel it around the house during the day, between rooms, was so handy!
We just got ours from Target on sale for about $99. It looked the same as the $300-$400 in the baby shops. My dad went to clark rubber for us and got a bit of foam cut to size, and we put that under DS to soften it up a bit for him. Mum just got some material from spotlight and sewed it all nice and pretty and they were his winter flanel sheets.
We also had the Amby, to see if it would help with DS's sleep issues, which it did help for the first sleep he had in it, but none after that one sadly :( I'm keeping it in case we have a future use for it ;) Is there somewhere around you that you can hire one to see how your little bubba likes it before you buy one?

no probs holly - the offer is there if you want to trial before buying though. it's packed away in the wardrobe for now and i can't see me ttc anytime soon (if at all - i don't think we'll try - we'll just let nature do her thing - if it's meant to be it will happen...)
