Okay, so now what...?
I have trained my little boy into the wonderful habit of falling asleep on the boob. This has been *relatively* all well and good until very recently when I cannot even put him down in this sleep without him waking. And its driving me nuts. It means I get even LESS sleep. So tonight, I'm *trying* to do controlled crying, but I just read the sticky on it and some of the article linked to it. Has something changed that cc isn't a good idea? I tried it with Steph, but it didn't work for her.
THis is really driving me nuts, because the only time he will sleep is in the car, and I'm pretty sure I can't spend my nights driving around for his sake.

I feel your pain. DD2 is the most terrible sleeper. Also falls asleep on the boob and wants me to hold her while she sleeps. I don't agree with cc so I'll have to live with it. Good luck and remember "this too shall pass"

I had that trouble with ds. Dd goes to sleep with a dummy and teddy which I find a lot easier. Can you co-sleep? With ds I co-slept then when he was 10 months we put him in a big bed part time and co-slept the rest, it's a car bed so its on the floor and he would just crawl down the front of it. That way I could feed him then just roll away from him and get up. I didn't have to move him at all. I did try cc twice for about 5 minutes. He ended up vomiting and I ended up crying as much as he did. I hope it improves for you soon.

We also co-sleep. It has been the best to be able to get some sleep. I am now trying to put her into the cot first and then when she wakes up to bring her into the bed. But she only lasts about 30 minutes in the cot. For some reason, I have not been very good at getting the sleep thing right with both by girls!

There is a tip for helping with that problem in Elizabeth Pantley's 'No Cry Sleep Solutions'. It worked for us. You can borrow the book from the library - it's brilliant - if you don't want to buy it.
Basically it involves waiting until bub is just starting to drift off, then gently removing your nipple - before they are actually asleep. If they protest or look for it again, let them have it, wait and repeat. It may take some time but it's a much gentler technique than CC if you don't want to go that way.
