Severe ovary pain around ovulation anyone?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has every had very severe ovary pain around ovulation? Brief history (we are ttc) I have got adhesions around my ovary and only one tube from an ectopic pregnancy. I've had scans and a lap which showed healthy looking ovaries. At the moment my pain is 7/10 (its worse then the pain I had with the ectopic) I always get ovary pain but this is constant. Not the throbbing I normally get but similar to my normal ovulation pain just much much worse. I am about to go to see a Dr somtime tonight but I am worried they will say I am just ovulating (that would embarrass me as I know that plus I work with them all) is it possible to have ovary pain that bad just from ovulation or is it likely to be something else unrelated? Its only been 5weeks since I had my ovaries looked at through laproscopic surgery and not many more weeks before that a scan which showed no cysts etc. Has anyone experienced this or something similar and what was it?

Ovulation pain is normal, I often get a sharp pain as the egg breaks out of its follicle, there has been times Ive needed panadol. I think I read somewhere that pain can also be caused by a follicular cyst or scar tissue. If you are really really concerned about the intensity of the pain don't be affraid to approach your GP and ask him/her or if not your womens health nurse at your local community health center.

Emmy hun, Hugs to you! Unexplained pain would have to be the most frustrating of all given you are not sure whether it is in your head or real. I too get quite bad O pain, enough so that I have to pause in my conversation until it is passed. I wince through it as well.

However, given this pain is different, it might be something else. Have you had your appendix out? Apparently the two can get confused, O pain and appendicitis.

I read somewhere that as the corpus luteum bulges to mature the egg, it can be as big as 20 mm (2 cm) on your ovary, and is called a blister. On some people this can be very painful.

Given your history with the eptopic pg, I would certainly see your doctor. It might be that under normal circumstances your ovaries look fine, but they might bulge when ovulating, or you might multi-ovulate.

Your appendix is on your right side, I lost mine at age 10! Always remember that your GP works for YOU..........you pay them to provide you a service and that 15 minutes is your time so don't worry about feeling silly over nothing!

No not my appendix as its the left side. Ovary pain is nothing unusual for me but this is much more painful then my usual ovary pain. But today is ovulation day. I can't even stand to DTD (this is day2 almost day3 of this pain although its getting worse) or go to the toilet (apart from a wee thats alright) if it wasn't in my ovary region so completely I would think a kidney stone. If I knew it would go tomorrow I would put up with it. Also I guess as its my left side (I am missing my bits on the right side) I guess I am so completely aware of every twing and niggle. I am hoping its the corpus luteum buldge thing. That would explain it if it gets bad some months and not others.

I get it too. Mine is actually referred pain as well. I have chronic back issues and when AF is due, I seem to have relapses with my back, ovulation pain (related to my hop flexor), and hip pain (I thought there was something wrong with my hip bone when I first got it!!!). Do have a chat to your GP though if you're concerned and never be afraid to ask a question - regardless of whether or not you work with them!

Oh, and my pain is often 7-8 out of 10 when I get it. The last two times I had to actually take Tramadol. Have you noticed a change in your bleeding? I notice that (TMI) when I have these bad pains, my period is usually much worse - heavier, clottier, longer.

Hi I know what you are talking about...mine gets worse as i got older i am currently pregnant so have relief for a while ( I guess labour is going to make up for the months I missed??) I have bleeding often with mine...and the pain will last for a few days, makes it difficut to get on with life, I was thinking that maybe I was releasing more than one egg, the doc said it could be that or the ripe egg bursting out and causing so much pain the most likely cause with the bleeding along with it.
I kind of feel like my ovaries are going to burst out from inside me, they feel very enlarged, I can actually feel them through my tummy.. given the fact that you have just had so much done as far as procedures i doubt that it is something else, but stilll ask..Ohhh I am not looking forward to it after this bubs, my tolerance of pain goes down after each baby??

..........oh yeah and don't forget the possibility of Upper Urinary tract Infections! These can present different again to a normal UTI. The infection is higher up.

I was screaming with abdo pain once and got turned away from the ED because of a neg dip stick test! I had no burning or stinging with urinating, but a God awful pain that had me bent over for a week! I went back to the ED in tears saw a different male Dr who bothered to do a pathology screen and an hour later came back and told me I had an upper UTI! The things we go through!?????????

I get the same pain, I know exactly what your talking about, the funny thing is I never usto get this pain and It was only after months of TTC that it started I even went to the Doctor about it a month or two ago, she sent me for an ultrasound apart from a few cysts etc nothing wrong. So it is unexplainable all I know is I get the pain around ovulation and sometimes it's worse than other times, it has been that bad a couple of times that I have found it uncomfortable whether I am sitting standing does not matter.

Anyway any pain no matter whether you think it is related to ovulation or not is worth getting checked out just incase.

I always used to get O pain too, sometimes I would double up in pain whlst walking through the supermarket just from O pain. I havent Od for quite a while due to PCOS so havent had it for a while, but I do sympathise with you. I used to get excited about I pain though as it meant I was fertile, I cant wait to feel it again!

Do you ever get a lot of discharge at ovulation after the bad pain? Esp lots of pinkish fluid?

I have polycystic ovaries and some months the cyst must have got really massive and burst - very painful and sometime with lots of fluid visible out the vag (depending on whether the cyst fluid happened to make its way into the fallopian tube I guess). The cyst then wasn't visible on the ultrasound as it was already gone. The doc suggested that the fluid from the cyst caused the pain as it sloshed around my pelvic cavity. Nice. I also had ovarian adhesions due to endo which then developed into endometriomas.

Hmmm it is so nice to be preggers and not worry about this stuff for a while... Emmy I do hope you have the same pleasure very soon. :crossfingers:

I haven't O'd for almost 18 months now, but in the months before I conceived DS2 I used to get some really bad O pain. One month it was so bad I was doubled over at my desk at work for hours, I couldn't believe how painful it was!

I even went for an ultrasound because the pain was starting to worry me a little, but nothing was detected. I too think mine was due to adhesions and scar tissue from my first c/section, because during my 2nd c/section the anaethetists assistant was explaining to me that the OB was just cutting through all the scarring from last time around. It all began to make sense to be then, because not only did O pain get worse for me after my first son was born, I actually started to get a lot of niggly pain (especially in my left side) all month long as well.

Since my 2nd son was born, the constant niggly pain has definitely not been as bad, however I'm still BF'ing and haven't O'd yet since he was born, so am eagerly awaiting my next ovulation to see if there is any improvement since my last c/s.
