Think DD is scared of using the potty!!

Hi,

I have only been TT my DD since NYE (of all days lol) and we have had many accidents and only a handful of puddles in the potty.

She won't sit on the toilet
She tells me she needs to wee, then either does it in her undies or sits on the potty for ages and doesn't do anything, then after I get her back up she will do it in her undies.

She did 1 poo in the potty and she got upset and didn't want to look at it.

Today she did 4 in her undies in a row!! The last one was a huge puddle, on the floor and in her undies (training pants). She is excited to sit on the potty but when it comes down to it, she seems scared.

I know its early days but its definitely a case of 1 step forward 2 steps back.

Another question - tomorrow we are going to the aquarium, I do think its too early days in the TT to go out with undies on. Any suggestions?

That sounds like what my mum described me as being. Im not sure if they still have them but what helped me get potty trained was she (this sounds mean) but she strapped me to a potty. This one day i sat in it for about 8 hours, she fed me icy pole after icy pole, i had juice, water (lots of water) and she gave me watermelon. I had 2 naps in the potty and after 8 hours i hadnt done a wee yet, my mum took me out and put a nappy on me and straight after i did the biggest wee which soaked through the nappy and through my pants and left a big puddle on the floor. That was day 1 of strapping me in and after a week i was freely weeing and doing number 2's.

But i think taking her to the aquarium in just undies will be a big mistake, are you using the pull ups?

Oh dear, I don't think anyone would recommed strapping a child to the potty.

Maybe she isn't ready yet. Leave the nappy on for a bit longer? She can still tell you if she knows she needs to go.

I was just about to start a thread about this. My DD is 25 months and tells when she is doing something in her nappy but when we approach the potty/loo she sits down for a second and jumps off. She did one wee in the potty and this freaked her out a bit. Now she'll ask to go to the loo but never does anything in it. She even asks me to put her nappy back on. I am guessing she isn't compeletly ready so I am putting the nappy back on until she is less affraid.

My friend is currently TT her son who is 2. She said that she has the door opened whenever she is peeing or when her partner is going to the toilet so their son sees how big people go to the toilet and that has helped her out alot. Also she tells him that big boys dont need nappies big boys use the toilet.

I'm currently TT DD ( a week into it) and my DD is doing exactly the same thing. Tells me she needs to go (generally at the same time as it is running down her leg) but by the time we get to the toilet she stops and won't do anything else but 10mins later we have another puddle. We have been using a seat over the toilet but also have a potty so we are now trying (starting tomorrow) to try and just get her more comfortable with sitting on the potty so we have put it in the middle of the lounge in front of the TV so I will get her sitting on it when she watches TV.

Its very frustrating and there have been many times I think I should try another time in a few months time but we are going to keep persisting as long as she is happy to wear undies or training pants.

When going out I'm going to use nappy pants so as not to seem like we are reverting back to nappies.

My DD was the same when we first started too. It takes kiddies time to relax enough to wee so you need to keep them there for a little while so we read DD a book initially. We also did up a sticker chart when she would get sticker for sitting on the potty and a small choccie for doing a wee or poo when she got a few stickers (we did 3 stickers/chocie for a while then increased stickers to choccie ratio). Does that make sense? You could also take her shopping and let her pick some special stickers and she can decorate the potty to make it hers, know what I mean?
And a little secret just between us ladies I did a wee or two on the potty to show DD that it isn't anything to be scared of and that is where the wees go now.
Stick with it because DD had more accidents than success for the first few days then it just clicked and she was unstoppable. Commit to it and stick with it.

I stopped for 1 week, and have sort of re -introduced it again today. I had been talking about it all week though.

So when it came to it today, she screamed when I took her nappy off, wouldn't get on the potty, when she did she sat there for about 1 sec (LOL), then when I tried to put her on the toilet while I ran her bath she screamed and cried!!!

But I think tomorrow I will get the stickers out and she can decorate her potty, and I do like the idea of me doing it on there too, that may relax her a bit more.

Tonight I went to the shops and bought some choccies (just hope I don't eat them first lol) and I also bought some My Little Pony toys that i will wrap up and she can pick one for sitting on the potty. I also have stickers so I can't decide what 'treat' and 'when' is the best time. I also found a toilet training story book for girls which seems quite good.

So will see how she goes tomorrow, will be home all day until around 5 so that will give me a bit of a chance.
