A callout to all BB cat lovers - we need your help :)

Hi ladies.

So DF and I have recently moved back to my mums house due to finaces being in the can and being booted out by our landlord :( MIL (who is a cow) recently got rid of DF's beloved cat without letting him know. He was really devistated, as we were planning to have her when we got a new place. That was about three months ago. Last night DF confessed that he really missed his kitty (the sweetheart) and so we called the shelter MIL had dumped her at...turns out she's still there :dance: Now here's the issue; since DF and I are back at my mums, we can't really have her here. There is already me, DF, mum, my brother and two cats in this 2 bedroom flat, one more cat would sink our ship lol. So DF and I were wondering if there was anyone out there on BB (or someone else you know) who loves cats would like to take her on. Her name is Bluebelle, she's about 3 years old, a british short-hair. She's gorgeous, she has blue/grey fur with spots of cream. She's very shy but affectionate. The reason MIL got rid of her is that she took on a Black Friday bushfire kitty back in March, who was not very nice to Bluebelle, and as a result, she started doing a few poo's and wee's in the house, although this shouldn't be an issue if there aren't too many other animals around (especially mean ones :rofl:) She's also an indoor cat only. We would love it if someone out there would be able to take her in for a few months, probably 3-6 max, until we can find a new place to live (very hard atm.)

I understand that taking her on may be a hard thing to do, and DF and I would not be able to compensate for her food etc, so it would be out of the kindness of your hearts. We're not really expecting anything from anyone, we're just trying to save DF's kitty, he really loves her. It's so sad she's been at the shelter so long, I'm worried what will happen if she's there much longer (iykwim :cry:)

So if you or anyone you know would like her for a little while, it would be amazing.

Awww I so would, but we have a dog and a cat and I don't think it would suit your kitty. I'm surprised she has been there that long.

Oh, sweetie, I would absolutely volunteer my assistance if I lived closer!! I have three cats atm (lol DH and I had two, when we inherited this house the cat was part of the package hahaha, we love him anyway, the big old ginger) and if we were any closer to you I would be more than happy to accommodate another housemate until you guys get back on your feet. I wonder how expensive it is to fly animals interstate lol??

Hope someone in your area can help you out, I can't imagine not having my furbabies with me... DH and I moved in with my parents just before DD1 was born for a few months and we had our two cats and her territorial Himalayan all packed into the place... it was interesting, to say the least... I really hope someone can help you, DF and Bluebell (what a pretty name!!). Good luck!

if my MIL wasnt my landlord i would say yes sorry sweetie hope kitty gets a home soon so you can have her back

Aw that is awful :( I would take her in a heartbeat if I could! We are in the middle of house hunting at the moment and if everything goes to plan we should be in our own house in 3 months from now. We could definitely take her then for as long as you need. It's just in the meantime we can't because we are currently living with my mum and already have a cat here who is NOT friendly to other animals :wall:

I really hope someone can help you now, and if you need someone to mind her in 3 months time we are more than happy to.

I know what you mean about lack of space, but maybe try to convince your mum that kitty needs rescuing or things might be looking grim for her, and it's just a few months! :(

If it helps at all, Pumpkin, I've found that most cats won't get along right off the bat, but given time, they learn to if not like each other, then at least live with each other. My mum's stroppy fluffbag was *most* upset to have two strange kitties in *his* house when we moved in, but after a few weeks he settled down and they all learned to just tolerate each others' prescence... and when we moved into this house, Mr Ginger was pretty p-o'd that there were two dopey new tabbies he was expected to share with, but now they're all best mates. And after seeing Mash learn to get along with our cats, mum ended up getting a Siamese and they've now learned to be housemates, if not BFFs... is there a way your MIL would be willing to put up with a couple of weeks of kitty-spats until they all settle in together, or is she dead-set against upsetting her baby by introducing it to yours? I really hope you guys can work it out!!

Glamourcide: Bluebelle WAS MIL's cat, but she gave up on her and chucked her out, because she couldn't be effed with her. I would LOVE to have her hear, but my mum already has 2, and three would be a stretch on food and litter etc (mum doesn't have a lot of dosh, we have none)

Like I said, thankyou so much for your replies. I will show this to DF and he will b e touched too :) We are going to keep looking and search all avenues for someone to take her, here and IRL too. It's so sad she's been there so long, I'm scared they may put her down if no one will have her.

If I didn't have 3 cats already I would have loved to help out. Sadly one of my cats is a bit mean and still hates teh last cat we got (4 years later).

Which shelter is she in? I know the Cat Protection Society (in Greensborough) don't put any cat down that gets put in to the pens for adoption. Perhaps that shelter wouldn't either.

if i was any closer i'd take her for you! she sounds like a gorgeous kitty, i hope you can find someone to temporarily take care of her. Are there any cat rescue groups in the area that could find a short term foster home for her?

If I was already in Melbourne, I'd love to help out - but I won't be down there until sometime between April & June

She's at a place in Keysborough atm that doesn't put their animals down (or so they say, I'm so cynical :rofl:)

So hopefully a nice family will adopt her, or even better, we find someone for her and we'll have her with us in a few short months :crossfingers:

My IL's got their dog from the same shelter I think, and apparently they are very good. Have you spoken to the shelter about your situation? I know it might be hard to go and do (better to go there if you can, than do it over the phone), but I think its worth a try talking to them and seeing if kitty can board there. I have seen this happen at the Lost Dogs home in North Melb for a bunch of dogs. They were boarded in pens next to the adoption centre. Discuss payment if you are able to pay something, or make an arrangement to donate your time?

I'm sorry I can't look after the cat, as much as I would like too.

Maybe try getting hold of a foster carer for cats? I know they exist, as crazy as it sounds, but there are people out there who look after abandoned kittens until they are old enough to be sold/given away. They may be interested in caring for your kitty until then? They are all cat lovers and are fully trained in caring for cats properly.
