I never have dressed them in any more than a swim nappy at that age.
we always wear a rashie for extra warmth, DD is a cold frog and one of the first to start shivering and it makes holding them easier too!
DD2 wears a swim nappy and bathers.
were we go they actually done actively encourage the use of rashies as they can weigh kids down, and can restrict mobility in the pool
DD wears her swim nappy and then a swim t-shirt (like a rashie) and a pair of swim bottoms. The swim bottoms don't replace the swim nappy but have been good for holding the swim nappy in place as DD is below the recommended weight for them - they fit her and do contain the poo etc but the swim bottom holds it in place better if that makes sense.
I like the shirt thing on her as it helps me to feel more confident holding her in the water... her bare skin is quite slippery
A bit off the topic, but you can wash and reuse the huggies swim nappies. If bub doesn't poo in them.
Just don't tear the sides and then chuck them in the washing machine.
Also if dads are taking the bubs swimming and they have hair on their chests a rash shirt is a good idea for dad. A friends bub tried to climb her dad's chest using his chest hair!
