Any great remedies for mozzie bites?

Or any suggestions on how to get her to stop scratching them? Natty's got HEAPS of bites on her legs (and one under her eye but that doesn't seem to be bothering her fortunately!) and last night she was awake with them for an hour or so (as was I. Yay.) and I think she only fell back asleep cause she was exhausted.
I have tried paraderm plus and aloe vera gel (to cool her legs down as I know for me if I'm hot the itchies itch more).
Are there any other itchy-bite remedies out there anyone can recommend?

I put tea-tree oil cream on them, or paw-paw ointment. My girls react to mozzie bites badly, and Ive found that they work the best for us!

Both my kids have terrible reactions to mozzie bites. Their doctor advised us to give one dose of Claratyne (oral antihistamine) and if it's really bad a tiny amount of hydrocortisone cream and then calamine lotion. They are all available over the counter at a chemist. I find Claratyne excellent. It works really quickly and I only have to give one dose.

Toothpaste!

Rub it in all around the bite too until almost completely absorbed

Soov. Its a gel you get from the chemist. DD is alergic to them and this works really well on stopping her from scratching. Shes also on Claratyne (sp) to reduce the swelling from them.

We have Mozi Free Oral Liquid which we give Emily as she gets attacked by them all the time. I have heard toothpaste is good for the bite as well.

My DD reacts terribly to mozzie bites and we find the Antiseptic Cream from the chemist works the best. It has a mild anasethetic to numb the area, an anti-inflammatory and soothing ingredients.

I also believe that Bottom Balm is good, but I haven't tried it yet.

I've used a home recipe that my gran has always used and I swear by it. Equal parts of dettol, meth and kitchen oil. Shake well and apply small amount to the area. Its smelly and it stings when applied for a few secs but it has always worked for me.

Just plain old vinegar will get rid of the itch as long as they're not scratched & bleeding.

A friend of mine got a device from the chemist that apparently sends some electrical impulse on the spot where you press it and it stops the histimines from creating the reaction. I am not sure what it is called but it works! Her son reacted really bad to mozzie bites and now they just go away within minutes. That probably wasn't very helpful...I will find out what it is called and get back to you. :D

Yep I second the tee tree to soothe and prevent infection plus you can try Chickweed gel or cream to stop the itch if you're looking for a 'natural' alternative to antihistamine creams :)

My home remedy to stop itching- bicarb soda mixed with water to a paste and applied to bites. You only need say a tablespoon bicarb and a few drops of water. I do it on DD and my mum did it with all of us. I got so sick of the bites on DD that we bought a mozzie net at the camping store to keep them away at night to go above the cot.

when i was a kidlet my mum used to use a homeopathic remedy called ledum (i think!) which always worked well. I react terribly to mozzie bites - sometimes a bite on my arm might swell to the size of one of those bouncy balls you get from the vending machine things at shopping centres! Now, I take antistamines - whatever's going, polaramine, periactin, claratyne - they all work to reduce the swelling and itching...but you do have to be careful using these ones with little ones! I'm not sure how old your child is but its worth checking and double checking with the pharmacist/doctor if you do get antihistamines! :) Ooh...also, I always find something cold helps! An icepack or cold face washer :)

Thanks mate. DD is only just 3 so I'll be sure to try all the topical stuff before I give her antih's I think... Your reaction does sound very severe! DD's isn't that bad.
