DH's psoriasis **vent included**

I am so over DH's psoriasis. He has two large patches on both shins and little ones on his elbows and those that come and go on his body (little spots).
We have gone to several drs, dermatologists, natural therapists etc. and he doesn't follow their orders. He is given cream and some oral medication (the name escapes me atm). He takes the pills along with his daily 50 other meds but is too lazy to apply the cream. How friggen hard can it be??
His psoriasis is white and flakey and he says it itchy, so there are white flakes in bed, on the carpet near his bed and therefore i am constantly vaccumming the bed, the carpets, the tiles etc... He never scratches inside the house and i don't see him do it outside either but i can never be too sure, so i vaccuum.
If its friggen itchy, then apply the cream and be gone with it :wall:

Many might know that i have a stutter and if there was a cream which i had to apply everyday on my tongue or inside my mouth i would do it FFS, even if it was 3 times a day.

How do you keep your or how does your partner keep their psoriasis under control??

Does he just forget? Maybe you could put reminder alarms on his phone or computer?
I'm sure if he started seeing results he would continue with it.
That or it just doesn't bother him as much as it bothers you. In which case, would making him do the vacuuming get the message accross?
I've found probiotics to be really helpful in helping my 2 when their skin is bad, but that's eczema so I don't know if it would apply with psoriasis. You could try giving him one of those inner health caps with his meds just to see?

Can totally sympathise with you TD as DD has bad eczema and is constantly itchy. Maybe do what i do and apply the cream for him and put bandages on his hands so he doesnt itchy LOL (wonder how your DH will like being treated as a 2 yr old?)

I agree with you, he needs to grow up and take responsibility fro himself. It's not hard to apply a cream a couple of times a day. Bloody MEN!

A friend of mine has UV treatment for his Psoriasis which really helped it. Has your DH tried that?

eeeeeeeewww. I'm not touching it. :lol: I know it doesn't bite, but there is no way i am touching it.
He needs to apply the cream, once per day and that is when he goes to bed. How friggen hard is that. I even put the jar on the bedside table to remind him. He cancels drs appts and won't go. I am totally and utterly fed up. When he does apply the cream and his shins look normal again, i praise and thank him for doing so (yep, just like a child) and then he doesn't do it for some time.

Tinks, he hasn't been to the light therapy but i think that was one of the roads the dermatologist is going to take. You know, if he just applied the cream, he'd be right.

Ummm if he is taking methotrexate for his p, then he is being really irresponsible by not having his appointments. Other meds for it aren't as bad, but you can't assume that meds will take care of it. I have just gotten myself to 97% clear after over a year of hard work with applying topicals and the buck stops with you. If you want to be clear, then you need to use the creams.

that's the one Trill. He is hopeless. We would've spent thousands of dollars on his p and it kills me knowing its gone to waste. It is him who wants to go to the drs and so we do. He drops out after a few months and then a few months later he wants to go again and i tell him the truth that he never follows orders and then i'm the baddy!

I'm going to tell him about how you've managed to clear almost all of it up in one year. It might prompt him again. He has a drs appt in early feb, which we've had to reschedule because he couldn't be bothered going to the original appt in November. His dr is always fully booked.

Hun, does he have blood tests to make sure that his liver and kidney function is OK? MTX isn't a drug you take lightheartedly. It can do serious and irreperable damage if not taken under strict monitoring. I had to have a blood test once a month to make sure that all my levels were fine. I just had an appointment on Tuesday and I am allowed to have a break from it to see how it goes without the MTX and I couldn't be happier to be off it, you aren't even supposed to drink alcohol because of the extra burden it places on an already stressed liver.

I think he had 2 tests for the 4 months or so he's been on it.

He drinks alcohol too, mainly beer. He is a real d*ckhead. I might have to go to one of his appts, at least i will tell the truth. I bet the dr asks him if he drinks alcohol and he would say "no" or "not much". he loves his beer too much. He takes about 8 of those small pills once a week.

Oh well, what can i do?? :dunno:

I was on that many per week too and it's considered a moderate dose. At the end of the day it has to be up to him and until he realises the full implications of what he is doing he isn't likely to change :hug:

I had the light treatment and it worked a treat. That was a few years ago now and I haven't had a bad outbreak since, the odd spot here and there but that's it.

Yes, in the end it is up to him. he is a grown man, but i hate seeing it.

Sarebear - how many sessions did you have? How much is it? I live in Melb too, where did you get it done?

The doc bulk billed it so it didn't cost anything. No idea how much it costs if it's not bulk billed though.

The clinic was in Erin St, Richmond, I just went to the gp and they referred me there. Can't for the life of me remember the doctors name though, if I find it I'll let you know.

For a while there I was going 3 times a week. All up probably a few months but it wasn't 3 times a week the whole time. It's pretty quick so it's not too bad, you just stand in a space ship looking thing for a few minutes wearing funny goggles.

It was so worth it, no more creams :D

TD, I'm on methotrexate for my arthritis, so not exactly dealing with the same condition. My doctor is letting me off lightly on the blood tests, which means I only have to have them every six weeks now.

And if he's on 8 2.5mg tablets each week... he could easily just take 2 10mg tablets. I can't tolerate 20mg so I take one 10mg tablet and three 2.5mg tablets to get my dose. Sometimes taking fewer tablets can make it feel less like a chore.

TD, my dermo charges $230 a pop for light therpy, but it is bulk billed so I assume that $230 is the going rate everywhere if they are able to bulk bill the full amount.

has anyone watched " the spa of emabarrsing illnesses " ? it had a women and a man with P and they healed it by going to a helth spa and having a diet overhaul , and Enema's . Coffee Enemas . by the end of the 2 weeks the suffers had a Signifgant improvement and didnt have medecation . One man with Exma , had to go back to half dose .

they explaind it only treats the symptoms not the casue and that the mind and body work together , so counselling and alternate theripies were had to free the mind and body , so the body could heal the ilness ...

its was amazing to watch the show unflod , and just by diet and enemas and a healthier life over all . the P had almost gone in 2 weeks .

take his beer away if he wont put the cream on !!

i saw a bit of it Lea. From memory on the show they went to a health spa in Turkey where there are fish in the water and they feed on the scabs. DH went there when he lived in Turkey and you always have to go, but it does come back, so its no cure as such. But the thought of fish eating your scabs eeeeewwww.
