Probably should be in the WooHoo thread....but ....

My DD is 17 months old has been wandering around with no nappy on for weeks...maybe months, and not getting anywhere with TT, apart from weeing all over the floor!
Recently ive managed to catch her a few times just as she starts to wee and tell her to stop then gone to the toilet and finished her wees in there, or the potty, but i think she like the big toilet better.
>>>WELL<<< today she was in the lounge, we always have the potty out, she was wearing a nappy. She just took the nappy off and sat on the potty and did a big wee. I nearly died!! I couldnt belive that she had just done it on her own, without even saying anything or haiving any help from me!!!!
Who knows if she will do it again!! But WOW. looks like all those weeks of mopping wee off the floor might be paying off! :rofl:

Haha you've got more energy and patience than me!!!! I'm sooo not into mopping pee off the floor at the moment, so even DS has to wait until I've got more energy to TT him.. LOL

thats terrific.... there are some boys in my mothers group who are three and aren't toilet trained yet, i think maybe every time they have an accident the mum's think 'they're not ready'.... one is actually not fitting into nappies anymore and they are looking at getting nappies for special needs kids for him, so they fit... i personally don't think i believe in such a thing as starting them too early... my dd took a few months of accidents before she got there, but thats just part of it... in some cases i think people might even leave it too late, waiting for that magical 'ready' time, and then the kids are so used to nappies they resist it.... just my two cents...

Hmm I think we'll definitely have to agree to disagree on that one.

i supppose i just hear a lot of things about it being too inconvenient a time to actually bite the bullet and toilet train, because it takes work and accidents and cleaning up, and i understand it does have to be done at a suitable time that you can dedicate to it, but it can be easy to put off.... and maybe they miss the boat...

i also get told that boys are a lot slower than girls at lots of things, including toilet training - is there any fact to this? i'm having a boy next and just curious.... my mum assures me that its rubbish, that my brothers were toilet trained and talking etc around 2.... just wondered if people think that boys are slower, then they maybe don't expect as much from them? just thinking out loud.

I dunno there is a common perception out there that boys are harder to toilet train, my mum told me herself.

And yes, if DS was my only child then he would have been toilet trained by now, I'm sure of that.

omg i actually have no idea? surely they don't have to learn to aim at the same time as learning to toilet train do they? i can just see pee going up the walls!!

DS sits on the toilet and holds his penis down so he doesn't spray over the seat. But he has flopped it over the side and held it that way whilst standing too ;)

i don't actually know what the hec i am meant to do with penis's.... i don't have one you see, hahahaha. i can see some funny times ahead.

Point it down before securing the nappy.... and.... if you take the nappy off and you see it rising quickly - put something on top of it or duck for cover.. ROFL

I'm with Emma, actually. DS was two when he started wearing undies to childcare (and had been in undies at home prior to that), cos I just decided we needed to introduce the potty for everyone's sakes.
With DD I'm doing elimination communication (but I'm not nappy free at this stage, just managing to save most nappies from soiling and we're well on our way to night continence), and I'm not exactly the kind of person you'd describe as having loads of free time ;)

Im the same Emma, i was so glad to have a girl....no idea what to do with boys... im sure my next will be a boy and il be thrown in the deep end too...im sure youl be fine!!
As for mopping up wee all the time, DD had a little play house in her room (one of those $10 ones from cotton on kids) and i was putting it down the other day and it smelt like a urinal....must have missed a wee at some point...YUCK!!
I dont know if there is a point where its too late...DD just likes to be nude alot (and living in Queensland who can blame her....if i could get away with it i would too!!) so it was just the natural progression. I certainly wouldnt be as game if i had two others running around, slashing in the puddles of wee aswell! :)

Living in VIc through cold winters didn't stop DS from running around nude - he got a reputation in our street, and people wondered if he was ok if they saw him in clothes! So, yeah, natural progression for him, too.
Having had the boy first, I can't say I feel it was harder to get him toilet aware at all. What I DO think made a small difference was wearing him in slings and the Ergo for as long as I did - it meant we went to the toilet together when I needed to go, so he was well aware of elimination conventions. With DD, she's even more aware because of hanging out with me in the loo (literally!!), and because she's popped onto an infant chamber pot (a vintage number, it's so cute!) as soon as I know she needs to go (which sounds really hippy until you're doing it and then you just get to 'know' and it's so normal!) and she knows what to do.
Now I have no idea if it's easier with boys or girls because DS was sooner than other boys we know and DD is doing it just so differently in terms of wee and poo management!
A good tip I got before DS was born, is to have a stack of face cloths handy by the change table, so instead of having to point the penis down, you just lay a cloth over it and if he's gonna wee, the cloth catches it :) Now I have a gazillion face cloths, but now use them at the change table kept in a Tupperware container of vegetable-based detergent (with some essential oils)...saving me loads in wipes.
Anyhoo, you can enjoy 'the twos' now without having to deal with as many nappies at home or out and about - it's wonderful to just have your little person with you and no luggage of 'supplies'!
