PCOS & Laparoscopy or FSH/LH

Hi,

I have PCOS and clomid at its highest dosage has not worked.

A FS just gave me the next 2 options and I need to choose:

1. Laparoscopy to burn the follicles/cysts. Apparently not much scientific evidence why this works but he says it ends up getting 80% of women to ovulate within a few months (although that is what I heard with clomid too, no go there for me)!

2. Daily FSH/LH injections with twice weekly blood tests.

Does anyone have experience with either of the above and PCOS? I am leaning towards surgery as it seems to address route cause and it means less chemicals in me again and there is also less monitoring (I work full time and travel a bit for work so Option 2 could get hard - but of course willing to do it if that is what it takes)?

Is the first one ovarian drilling?

I guess another advantage of the first is that they can have a good look around and see if there isn't anything else that's affecting fertility (assuming they havn't already done a lap).

Not much help I dont think but I have had a couple of Laparoscopies and it doesn't take too long to bounce back from the op u'd be back on ur feet the same day
I have PCOS and I personally would try to lap then after that the injections but thats just me
I think this is a personally decision as it sounds like u have all the info about the actual op and injections and the best bet is research if u can find it
I hope whatever u decide works for u (I am almost in the same boat well in a month I will be I guess)

I have PCOS too.

I tried clomid for 3 cycles when TTC my first son. None of those worked, so i went onto the injections. I had 4 (i think) cycles of those which didn't work, so i went on and had a lappy done, just to look at my overies, tubes etc and a flush out of my tubes. They didn't do the ovary "golfballing" as my FS called it. :D But she said that would be my next option if i wanted. I went on to do another hormone cycle, and fell pregnant. Apparently that is very common after having your tubes flushed (even thought here were no blockages). The injections for me did make me very emotional, and i had lots of mood swings, but thankfully that was pretty much it for me side effect wise.


I guess for me, I was more worried about doing something that would leave a permanent mark on my overies, thus i went with the hormones, but i was nice and close to my clinic. My mum also used to run the clinic i went to, and so she advised me to keep with the injections... even though she said that she hadn't seen any negatives from the op either.

FWIW, with my next attempt after having DS1, I went back and started a few months before we planned on getting pregnant, so i could get through the 3 rounds of clomid... but i fell pregnant on the first one! and then with DS3- he was a natural surprise bubba :D

Thanks for your advice. Yes, my FS also called it "golfballing". Interesting that the "flush" worked for you in conjunction with the injections.
