i didnt try til DD2 was around 5 months
I think when they can hold their own head up by themselves. I can't remember when DS went in it without the insert either! Sorry, I wasn't much help was I?! :)
Yeah I thought that....Ds2 holds his head...and never like the infant insert so we have been using the HAB but its soo hot....what about their legs? Cause they have to kinda be spread?
I put Alana in ours when she was about a week off 4 months of age. K went into it when he was 4 months old. If they're too little their little legs can't really stretch around your waist. I'll have to go and see if I can find the age/weight recommended :)
I think at about 3 months. But i put them in froggy until their legs would go wide enough.
Thanks Trish...Well I am sure boof head here will hit the weight limit :) So only a month till I can give it a go????
OT but have you seen the pink ones...how cute are they..and the grey star ones! I so dont need another carrier but they are beautiful :)
Junglemumma...are you really 92 if so i want what you use lol...how do you put them in froggy??????
Yeah, i'm 92. Look good eh? :p
You just have him on your chest but with his feet together and knees bent..... kinda like a frog!
Just found it - the minimum weight recommended without the insert is 15lb which works out to be about 6.8kg.
I know, how cute are the pink ones! And the grey one is gorgeous! I haven't seen them in Australia, the wholesaler doesn't seem to have them.
Thanks guys...so Ds2 is well over the weight ...Junglemumma I will give that a go!
Trish bummer can you buy from the US? no dont tell me cause I dont need one hahaha
Babesinarms have the grey with stars as well as the pink rose one.. if they were the ones you are after.
I brought my ergo from them, and highly recommend them! No problems what so ever, and very easy to deal with (and they are in Australia) :)
Dont tempt me jng1977 :)
hehehehehe :) Sorry
When you can use an Ergo (or any SSC with heavy waist padding) without an infant insert depends more on the length of the child's leg rather than specifically any developmental milestone like the ability to hold their head unsupported. Likewise, weight recommendations are just a guide. The legs should be long enough to straddle comfortably without the sides of the carrier rubbing or pushing against the back of their leg, or without the legs being extended past a comfortable straddle. In my very tall son's case, this was at three months. For some babies this is at four or five months.
A word of caution about using most SSCs with an infant in froggy position. Although it can be done, and done safely, no manufacturer will recommend it. Because the waist is structured and cannot be worn apron style like most mei-tais (and some buckle tais without structured waist like the Connecta), which forms a pouch, potentially a baby can slip through the bottom of the carrier. Whilst it is highly unlikely that they will fall through unless the waist band is loosened accidentally, what is more likely that if the top of the waist band is not perfectly snug (not uncommon in a carrier that is worn on the hips), the baby's feet can become wedged between the band, potentially losing circulation. Now, most if not all babies will let you know long before this is a problem, and proper positioning should be checked using any carrier in froggy position for the same reason, it's just that a structured waist is not intended for use in froggy position so extra care should be taken.
Thanks Suse!
I will stick wiht the HAB for the moment and then give the Ergo a go when he is a bit bigger...his legs are a bit chubby and dont think they will go wide lol!
i swapped from the HAB to the ergo when ds2 was 5.5months. i tried a little earlier but he just hated it!
Erm . . . i have dd2 (nine weeks old) in my ergo without the insert (i've ordered it but still waiting) :hide: the pouch is high enough that her head can't roll back and i just support her with my hand when bending down etc. she rests with her cheek on my chest quite comfortably . .
I've got DS in the Ergo now, have for the last couple of weeks... Boomba did you want to meet up one day and you can try it?
