Which high chair?!
I'm looking to buy DD's high chair in the next month and I'm so confused - there is far too much choice! I'm hoping the lovely BB girls can make my decision easier.
We have plenty of room for a high chair so space isn't an issue (so we don't want a space-saver type chair). I want one that reclines, has several different height settings and is on wheels. I'm happy to spend up to $300 if that amount is justified.
Before I get heaps of comments about the Ikea high chair, we've decided we don't want one of those. I know they are cheap, convenient and super easy to clean but it's not what we want.
So which high chair do you have and what do you like and dislike about it?
TIA!

We just ordered one yesterday from pramwarehouse online and got the Steelcraft hi-lo messina it has 6 height positions and 4 recline positions (from memory) and a big basket in the back of it. It is on wheels which I love as I can wheel it around the house with me. My sister has the same sort of one Her DS is 5 now (no she isn't still using it ;)) but she will be using it for her DD soon too - still perfect condition.

Thanks Ellee. I have looked at the Messina and it looks quite good.
Anyone else???
:bump:

I too have the Messina & so far I'm happy with it. Although DS isn't on solids yet I put him in it to give him a different view & he always looks comfortable in it!!
One thing I will say is that I find it hard to push backwards - the castors seem to stick. But that could be just the operator :D
Good luck!!

Thanks girls. I'll check that one out.
Anyone else or does everyone have the Ikea high chair??

One of my friends has a Steelcraft...sorry not sure what type....but it reclines n has wheels....and she loves it!!
Sorry I cant be any more help than that, Ive only used a cheap space saver and a one of those booster seats that strap on our dinning chair

Dont buy one without taking your DD (or another child if your DD isnt sitting) to put in there and try it out.
The most important thing (other than the chair meeting safety standards) is that the table adjusts inward far enough so that your child can easily reach the table. A lot of them dont - the cheaper ones anre often better in this regard.
We have a steelcraft one and our model the table has two settings, but the closest one just inst close enough leaving a lot of room between DS and the table.
I would have also preferred on with the moulded plastic part that goes between bubs legs.

We have the Steelcraft messina II. I love it and DD seems quite comfortable in it. It has the adjustable height/recline and the tray can also be adjusted to three different positions, depending on how close/far away you want it to bubs. It's got two trays as well, one clicks on top of the other, so if one gets completely filthy you can just take it off to clean later and still have the other tray to use. I find the castors do stick a little bit, but once they swivel around the right way it's ok. It was relatively cheap too, compared to some of the others I looked at, and so far has been easy to clean. The seat area is completely machine washable so if it's too hard to wipe clean can just chuck it in the washing machine.

We have the steelcraft mealtime, I was planning on getting messina but they had none and was going to be 6 week wait!!!
Mealtime reclines but does not go up and down or have wheels but moves easily enough, I like plastic bit between legs.

sorry - we have 3 high chairs.
1. peg perego - toooo hard to clean with all the folds etc and seemed clunky, i was always running over my feet with it. seemed to "envelop" ds a bit and he didn't like being in it. he just sat so low in it, the tray was up to his chin and there was no way to adjust the seat height in relation to the tray.
2. chair topper one, which sat on our dining chair. was great because it was pretty cheap and he felt part of the family at the table. easy to clean. but then he figured out how to push his feet against the table and tip back.
3. we've ended up with the ikea one i'm afraid, which i swore i wouldn't do. wish i had've just got it to begin with tbh...
if we win tattslotto i'd buy a stokke tripp trapp!! :)
sorry! ;)

We have the Ikea one.... sooooo easy to clean!! And so many restaurants have these so when you go out, bub is used to sitting in the same chair ;)

love n care techno
its good in all ways except DS is just too small for it he drops all his food down his front even with cusions

We bought the Peg Perego Prima Pappa Diner.
Based on that reason that my son loves to bash his legs under the tray but this models tray is enclosed and flat so even when he does kick it doesn't hurt him. Also because I prefer the moulded plastic part that goes between bubs legs to be there even when the tray is not being used as it has better support.
I did look at the Messina but when you remove the tray the plastic in between support also goes away too. * attached to the try)
The Prima Pappa Diner features 7 position adjustable height, 4 position recline, a five point harness, four wheels and a two tier food and snack tray that can go in the dishwasher.
Also bought it for the great price as they were normally $379 and we got it for $239.95
Good luck High Chair shopping :D

Sorry... I know this wasn't what you're looking for but wanted to weigh-in as I am LOOOOOVVING our new chair. We had one on wheels with diff positions etc (it was given to us and I'm sorry, I don't know the brand) and it drove me nuts as DD was too small in it and the height of the tray was not adjustable so I had to prop her up with towells. (So I agree with the others - put your DD in it before you buy!!). It was tricky to clean and she thought it was a great climbing frame so I ended up having to put it out of the way all the time.
Now we've got one of the little seats that sits on top of one of our dining chairs and it's fantastic. It comes apart really easily and I can put the tray (or the whole thing if I want) in the dishwasher - not that I have as it's really easy to just wash the tray off in the sink. DD loves sitting up with us and being part of our mealtime. I've also found it really handy to take away with us, to my parent's house, to a restaurant that didn't have a high chair, to mother's group...
Just my 2c anyway.

we have the mother's choice retro. we didn't choose it because it was given to us but so far i like it.
the things i like about it are:
it's light & so easy to move around
it's folds flat so if i do want to put it away, i can
the tray is big & nice & close to DS
i don't think it's height is adjustable though? so that would have been a problem if he was a smaller baby.

Thanks so much for all your replies. Well, I think we might have to strongly consider the Ikea high chair again. LOL! I really did want all the bells and whistles but a mum of two little girls made a really good comment to DH and I on the weekend. She said 'high chairs are for eating in so feed them and get them out of it'. Quite a good point really!
I'm going to have a really good look at high chairs at one of the baby shops but I think we'll get the Ikea one for now and give it a go first. For $40 you really can't go wrong, can you?
Thanks again!

I think even if it doesn't suit you in the end it would be handy to have as a high chair to take to a friends or resturant as it's light weight and the legs just pull out. DD is starting to sit now not for long periods but I was told that unless they're sitting the ikea is no good for them...? Not sure though as I'm just learning too :) goodluck

Thanks Ellee, good point. We've got a Bumbo so we are going to use that until DD is a bit stronger. I'll get the comfy insert thing for the Ikea chair too. And yeah, if it doesn't suit our needs it's cheap and will come in handy for camping, etc.
