Poo Problems with 9 week old

So for the past few weeks my boy has had trouble with his morning poo. He does several poos a day, is BF and for most of the day has no trouble with them. But between 3-5am he starts to get grizzly and cries as he starts the poo grunting warm up noises.Sometimes a dummy works, sometimes I feed him as disraction and to try and help and he'll fall back asleep.

Most days by 5.30 I've cracked it and he's in my bed so I can keep shoving the dummy in cause he'll wake and cry and strain without it. Or I can feed him laying on my side. The poo arrives usually by 8am by which we are both exhausted and crabby. The rest of the day is fabulous and he sleeps from 7 or 8pm till midnight most nights, and then feeds at 2 or 3 again. It's just after that second night feed it all goes to hell.

Suggestions?? I've tried massage, cycling his legs, infacol - but he seems to burp fine anyhow, putting him on his tummy for a bit while I watch etc.

It might not be trouble with pooing. Your DS is clearly not consipated, which is not surprising as he is fully bf. It sounds more like it might be wind, or perhaps pain of some sort, or even just that he's ready to be awake by that time. If it is trouble with pooing or wind, then bfing is a good option. Sucking helps to work out wind (which is why the dummy would be helping), and bm has a laxative effect as well.

Other than bfing, an other option might be to try a warm bath (if you have everything ready the night before then it might help), or try having him upright for a while (do you have a sling?) to see if that helps. I know it means that you will need to be awake also which is hard work, but if it works you might both be able to sleep later in the morning.

i don't have any advice, but my DS went through a similar phase - he used to wake us up every morning at about 5 & grunt & strain etc for a couple of hours till a poo came. after a while he just stopped doing it - so i figured it was just the maturing of his digestive system perhaps & in the end he outgrew it. i just can't remember when it was though.

Hi, no advice here either but dd does the same thing...2 times a day..She usually does ok in the morning but the evening poo is so frustrating for her and I. Like you we have tried the cycling, bath etc but she is only happy when its over.She fusses and pulls her hair and rubs her face. When I bf her she is on and off the nipple quite erratically...Does that sound similar?
