partially descended testicle
Hoping someone can give me some information on this, or tell me of their experiences.
Sam was born at 36 weeks, with one testicle only partially descended. Every time we've seen the paed, he's ummed and ahhed over it and told us to keep an eye on it and come back and see him in 6 months.
One doctor who has checked it says we're ok because it's down out of the body cavity, even if it isn't down where it's supposed to be. Another doctor just thinks he has a really strong retraction reflex. But there's been times when I've checked and haven't been able to find the troublesome one... other times where they're both up high and times where one is down quite low and where it's meant to be if all things are normal.
The paed says we're ok as his scrotum is wrinkly (apparently if he lacked the wrinkles we'd have more trouble), but once again gave us the come back in 6 months spiel today. If it's not down properly by the time Sam's 18 months old he'll refer us to a surgeon to get it fixed properly. He also said I could have the referral now if I'm really worried...
I am worried. I don't know whether it's just me being super-sensitive to anything that may impact on my son's future fertility after we had to go through 18 months of hellish IVF to get him...
Part of me just wants to get it fixed, thinking that the quicker the better and the less impact it is likely to have on him later in life... but the other part of me is thinking that it would be a bad thing to put him through surgery if it's just going to eventually fix itself with time.
