hi girls
we want to buy DS2 a trike with a parent handle for his 1st birthday
was wondering which ones do you recommend
Looked at the Smart Trikes and the Eurotrike so far
also seen a cyclops one as well but dont know anything about this one
What trikes have your kids used/own and what would you recommend?

I did a lot of research on this before xmas because I wanted to get DS one as well- and the (sad) conclusion I came to is that none of them were a great investment! From what others have said, the trikes with parent handles don't have a very long lifespan- once it gets to the times where they are learning to ride themselves, those kind of trikes are too heavy and awkward for them to ride. They can also be quite hard for the parent to push in the meantime, and they are not particularly portable- eg- difficult to take to the park etc. I am going to wait until DS is old enough to ride a trike himself and then get a light, portable one.
Having said all that, if you do want to get one, make sure you get one where the parent handle can actually steer the trike. I have used one where it does not and its a massive pain!

sorry we have one as well and its useless, DD at 3 cant pedel it due to the design!
Nina was given a Mongoose trike for her 2nd birthay. It's fantastic, very sturdy, has adjustable seat positioning. She can still ride it even now, but we've now given that to Emily and Nina has a big bike.
We bought a secondhand Eurotrike off ebay a couple of years back. It is a great bike, but I wouldn't have paid RRP for it. I also found it a pain that DD could reach the handbrake on the side and kept pulling it on while we were in motion...:wall:

We have a Eurotrike (one that parents can steer) that we got for DD for her first birthday and it has been great! DD went through a phase where she hated the pram and wouldn't sit in it, so I used the trike instead and she was really happy with that, I think it gave her a whole new perspective on the world :D She is 25months now and still loves going for a walk to the shops on her 'bike'. She isn't able to peddle it yet and I have heard it can be difficult for them to learn to peddle on the Eurotrikes but really it has been a very handy thing this year.
