South-East Melb:2 miscarriages and think I need more support than current OB can give

Hi all

Wasn't really sure where to post this as I kind of fall "in between" the categories. By way of background, my DH and I have been TTC #1 since Jan '09, in which time I've had 2 miscarriages, both at about 5 1/2 weeks (with a break in between to sort out some mental health issues). I also have 2 known fibroids, one of which is submucosal and distorting the uterine cavity. After my 2nd m/c I told my OB that I was not prepared to try again until I'd had some investigations done. He agreed to refer me to a fertility/fibroids specialist who works with Monash IVF here in Melb and I have my first appointment on 23 March.

My current OB is very popular and has been lauded on various baby forums. However, after 2 miscarriages and no successful pregnancies (and in light of my mental health history) I am wondering if he is the right one for me. He was (superficially) very sympathetic but, in the circumstances, I feel a bit too laid back about the whole situation. He also seemed surprised that I was actually prepared to PREVENT conception until I'd had a chance to get some tests done. I know in my heart that I wouldn't be up for trying again if I hadn't at least tried to find out if there's a reason for my m/cs...

I have a couple of questions. Firstly, assuming the FS finds something she is able to help with, which I know is not guaranteed, would she continue to see me during a future pregnancy? If so, up to what point? Would she then refer me back to my original OB?

I get the feeling that when I do get another BFP, whether or not the FS finds some underlying reason for my miscarriages, I will need more support than my current OB is able to provide, especially during the first few weeks. I am thinking maybe someone who has experience with women in my situation...or would the FS provide this?

Also - I am in S Eastern Melbourne and had been hoping to deliver at Cabrini. I have already booked in and had to cancel twice. Can anyone PM me the name of an OB who delivers there who will be caring, but also particularly sensitive to the concerns of someone who is likely to be more anxious than the average 1st time mum-to-be?

I am sorry you have had such a rough time :hug: I am not really able to help much with your situation, but i was wondering if you could ring the midwifery team at Cabrini?? Maybe they might be able to talk to you about the Obs that deliver there and help with suggestions/names.

I rang the midwifery team at my local hospital recently and had a wonderfully enlightening discussion with them regarding Obs.

I suggest you try Tony Lawrence. He also works within Monash IVF and I have found him great through both miscarriages and pregnancies. He can seem casual or blase occasionally but he is very thorough and you willl know if he has any concerns.
