Keep going or give it a break?

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to get opinions/advice on my DD. She is 3 in March and we have been TT for about 4 months. She only wear Nappys at bed. She does both wee's and poo's on the toilet and will pretty much go everytime we ask or take her.

Her main problem is that she will take herself when she needs to go but very very often has already done some in her knickers, mainly wee's and the occasional skiddy.

My question is should I keep preservering as she seem's to be ready and knows what to do, or would it best to give it a break and put her back into nappys for a period and hope it all clicks when we try again. We do lollies and stickers which she likes, but I am at loss on what else to try. We have talked about staying dry and the whole process so I think she gets it.

A couple of things stood out here.

You seem to have to ask your DD to go to the loo, or take her there - does she ever initiate this? I'd try asking her to tell you when she needs to go, then if she doesn't know that she needs to then it's too early.

There's nothing wrong with training pants: a suggestion is to use cloth ones or put pants inside trainer pants so that the child feels wet still.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, ask your daughter. My son is just lazy: he could be trained if he just went to the loo. He refuses to and when my mum pushed it he just told her that he wants to be a little baby and wear nappies, not a big boy in pants. (Given that he can go 3 hours easily without weeing and tells us that he is going to do this, it's just laziness and/or fear of the loo: either way I'm not going to push it yet.)

I'm no expert but it sounds like she's doing really well. My dd was tt both night and day by 22 months and I did notice that she went through a period of doing a tiny bit in her undies before she realized that she needed to go. It lasted for a while and then all of a sudden it wasn't happening. She was letting us know before anything came out. I wouldn't revert back to nappies. It sounds like she's going really well. It does take time but it sounds like she's doing all the right things :)
