please help baby charlie poo......

ok as the heading says do you know any suggestions on how to help my little girl do a pooey.she did actually do a big one this afternoon but it was her first since sunday morning and today when she did one she screamed from pain i think,this was after i gave her a bottle of water to help BUT how can i stop this from happening again it was cruel to watch her go through that :cry:.
she is bottle fed with s26
do you girls have any old wives tales or suggestions for me and coops to try if so i could really use the help girl please.

I know how awful it is to hear them screaming in pain trying to do a poo... Your DD is still very young though, so i would be hesitant at this stage to try anything (e.g. the 'usual' remedies are offering water, diluted prune juice, coloxyl drops, warm water with a bit of brown sugar mixed in). But she is only 5 days old so I wouldn't want to be introducing anything other than milk into her system at this stage.

She might just have been crying from the sensation of having the poo moving through her bowels and then out, it must feel pretty horrible when you haven't had to do it before! Was her poo hard or runny-ish? If it's 'normal' poo I wouldn't be too worried yet, her digestive system is still probably working out how to function properly and digest the formula.

Oh..a warm bath and rubbing her tummy in a clockwise motion might help?

When Jaz was a bub, when I switched her from boob to formula, she started on lactogen & was constipated for the first few days. Then when they were sold out of lactogen & she had s26 she had trouble again, & again when we went back to lactogen.
I'd say its just her little belly getting used to it hun, never had the problem with Bri & Jesse's had the odd FF with no problems, so it doesn't happen to them all.

:hug: The things I would (and have) tried at this age are the pumping the legs, warm baths and massages cause at this stage thier little bodies are still adjusting to processing food. What are her poo's like? if they are hard and you think she is constipated then hopefully someone with a bit more experience in this area will come along and give you some great suggestions.

My DD didn't use her bowels for 7 days after she was born, the midwives suggested spending lots of time on her tummy to help put pressure on the bowels, the other thing they suggested was to slightly rub her anus with a wet cotton wool ball to encourage a motion, obviously not very often, maybe every second nappy change.

I hope she poos for you soon...I remember how worrying it was......

you could also try a HA formula - these are partially digested and less likely to cause constipation?

oh thank you girls,it nearly broke my heart when she screamed but it was soft poo and it was green ill keep an eye on her and see how we go but again thanks girls just a new worrying mummy here i think after a 10 yr gap i think ive forgotton a lot of things lol.ill keep you posted ok ;)

green poo is pretty normal for formula fed bubs as its high iron in the formula.
if the poo was soft then she probably is not constipated. This doesnt offer much consolation when you can see she is in pain, I know, but it may be wind or something else.
