Just curious - does this mean anything?

Just wondering if it means anything when my four month old randomly wakes up for feeds in the middle of the night. We wake him for feed between 10 to 10.30pm each night and most times this results in him sleep through to the next morning (wake time will range from 5.30 am to 7.30 am) but every week to ten days he will wake for feed in the middle of the night. Just curious if there would be any reason for this too happen?

During the day his feeds seem to change a bit also. Mornings seem to be more consistent of late he has been feeding probably every 3 hours or so but in the afternoons he will push out to four hours inbetween feeds some days to two hours inbetween feeds other days.

Just wondering if this is a sign of something else happening that I should be looking out for? He is very easily distracted if I try to feed him when we are out so is a bit of a juggle to get out and about and still make sure he feeds properly. Or is this just normal behaviour at his age?

souns like normal random behaviour keeping you on your toes.
At this age they do tend to get distracted a lot too and may get difficult about feeding. I pretty much gave up trying to bf him in public from 4 - 11 months cause it was just too hard most of the time

Sounds pretty normal to me. They are growing and changing so much some times they just need a bit more milk. It could also be the heat, they need a bit more hydration when it is hot and want extra feeds.
As for the irregular feeds during the day, I know ALOT of women say their babies get themselves into a routine by that age, but my girl hadn't, and even now I'd say we had a fair bit of variation day-to-day. Again the heat could be causing some extra feeds. So to me it sounds normal but I get the feeling my 'anti-routine' baby is in the minority. Hehehe, probably has something to do with her anti-routine mummy!
Anyway, it all sounds normal to me!

Hi Hon. I'd say it's as simple as he's either hungry or thirsty ;) It's a bit annoying when they change their routine though, isn't it.

They are a lot harder to feed at this age as they're so busy and easily distracted. Try a muslin to cover him or get a breastfeeding shawl. My SIL bought one for me and it's brilliant.

My DD is super busy and I find it difficult to get her to have a decent feed throughout the day but I figure she will settle down and feed properly when she's hungry/thirsty so I don't worry about it. I can't force her to drink so there is no point worrying about it.

I offer DD a feed anywhere from 2-4 hourly throughout the day. My goal is to give her 5 feeds a day and as she sleeps for 10-11 hours straight overnight, I need to squeeze them in during the day, hence why I offer frequently. If she doesn't want it then I leave it for a while then offer again. I find being flexible like this allows me to get out and about a lot more too.

Like Izzie Taurean Sam is busy busy busy always has to know whats going on. Unfortunately the muslin or feeding shawl just doesn't work with him. He absolutly hates it being on and squirms to get out from under it - little bugger - its like he knows what I'm try to do and say nah not playing that game :lol: I find when he is hungry he will feed but if only semi hungry then will be on and off and looking around and very easily distracted

Was at the paeds today as he had wanted to check up to see how his weight gains etc were going as they were lower in the begining (we had last seen him in December) and he has told me to start him on solids. He said no need to wait !!!! Guess we will have to find out what he thinks of them - had intended to look at starting at about 5 months as we go overseas when he turns six months and wanted to have him at least started before that happens. It was funny yesterday though when I was having breakfast I don't know who was staring at me harder Sam or the dog! They were sat beside eachother each fixated on me - funny both were drooling as well!
