Does anyone know how long the gastro virus remains active/contagious?

Poor DD has gastro. Poor Mummy has had no sleep, and there's not a clean sheet, towel or pair of PJs in the house. Oh, and I've faced nappies scarier than any horror movie ever made today! But we're doing ok. Aside from being a bit lethargic and having no appetite, DD has been pretty chipper about the whole thing. Thought it was HILARIOUS to watch Mummy and Daddy rushing around stripping the bed for the third time and changing her clothes at 4am. Weirdo!

My concern is actually for my friend. I've arranged to catch up with her on Monday and am very wary of exposing her to a bug as she has a compromised immune system due to cancer treatment.

Does anyone know how long DD is likely to be contagious?

From experience with daycare, they have to be excluded til theres been no diarrhoea for 48 hours, so Im guessinf 2 days clear?

Thanks Pandora. It's been less than 24 hrs since she started vomiting but I think she seems to be turning the corner already. And from what's come out already I'm assuming there can't be too much more in her as far as diarrhoea goes.

Fingers crossed she's in the clear and not a risk to anyone by Monday??

you would really need to wait until she eats something and see how her little body reacts. As usally they need to be 48hrs clear of vomitting and diarrheoa.

Good luck, hope she is feeling better soon..gastro is the worst. I had DS1 and DS2 both with rota virus 2yrs ago the same time.

When i was 36 weeks preg i got gastro, i phoned my OB and he asked me not to come in for 5 days (unless i needed to of course), as it could be contagious for as long as that. 4 days after the symptoms stopped my parents came to visit and they both got it.
So i would think you would be better to play it safe and postpone, particularly as she has a compromised immune system and will pick up bugs more easily.

I'd be really cautious given your friend's medical condition and how serious it could be for her if she caught it.

I'd be inclined to give it a miss or at least call your friend, let her know about the gastro and see what she thinks.

some times it lasts only a few days but DS (4) had the runs for a good 10 days, and minimal vomiting at all.

You are deemed contagious for another 48 hours after the last symptom whether it be diarrhoea or vomiting.
Hope it clears out your house quickly.
