I just bought my dog a treadmill..
Well our dog is a lurcher, a staghound cross with a border collie. The gypsies used to breed them as they are great hunting dogs, but they are smart enough to bring home the animals alive as they have smart brains like a farm dog.
Anyway.. we have a small yard, 900sqm (it's what we call small when living in the country!) And she loves to tear up anything and everything. I cannot use an outdoor washing line or put certain shoes outside. The chickens have to be caged up all day , even then she has managed to break into their cage and kill a few. The dog is so hypo when ever anybody comes over, people are scared of her over friendlyness, she never bites them, she is just very overwhelming.
We have tried a few things to try calm her down, I was walking everyday with her for about 4 months, it wore me out, but didnt do anything for her. We try to distract her when people come over, we tie her up, force her to sit. Nothing seemed to work.
My mum introduced me to a book called ' cesars way ' I still have not read the book:redface: but I have looked him up and seen some of his methods, apparently he is on foxtel on a show called 'the dog whisper'
Cesar says dogs need at least 45 mins of walking everyday! And if you cant do this, then get them on a treadmill for some of the time.. So, I've bought her a treadmill. I have watched some online videos about how to train them to use it, and it doesnt look TOO hard.. But getting this walking time will settle down even the hypoist of dogs, so I really want to try it.
Has anybody heard of this.. or even done this?
