How do I stop the yelling???

Hi!!

ds has taken to yelling at everything!! For example I ask him would you like to play trains? (he loves trains) .. and all I get NO PLAY TRAINS MUMMY NOOOOOOO ....or I ask would you like to go to the park - NO GO PARK MUMMY....... you know its almost comical they way he get so boisterous :lol: ....... the way I respond to him is please Aiden don't yell at mummy or ok no trains then - which usually works...

My main question is does your 2 year old yell at you ???? Is it a phase ??? What did you do to over come it.....

One of the reasons I delayed having kids for so long (I'm 38) is that my sister's kids never actually learnt to talk. They only yelled.
They are now 11, 9 and 5 and the older two are still yellers, while the younger one is capable of talking and even whispering!
Hope that's not overly negative. It doesn't actually bother my sister but it drives me bonkers. If DD is a yeller I think I'm going to book in for some kind of ear surgery to bring on a bit of deafness.

Oh Chepie, sorry for sounding unsupportive. I didn't mean to. I should have held me tongue (fingers?).
I guess I'm still amazed that some toddlers/children are loud. Some aren't. And kids go through stages all the time. Hopefully this is just a stage for you.

Yes, DS yells. He's excited. I remind him to speak in a normal voice. If he chooses to shout, I won't do as he asks. And so he calms down and asks normally.

But I rarely shout at him. We speak normally. He did tell me off for shouting last night... but I told him if he did as I asked in the first place I wouldn't shout!

Oh yeah ... I'm frequently saying "shhhhh" and by night time I've been known to shout "SHUSH" which seems pointless since children learn more from what we do, than what we say :lol:

Most of the time he's ok now though, we told him that he can shout outside, but not inside. It's only when he gets excited he forgets and shouts these days.

Yep, DS has just started doing this and is going through a real defiant stage, I think he's testing his boundaries, but it's driving me bonkers!!

damn, was hoping to find a magic cure for BEING REALLY LOUD ALL THE TIME. I have two who are loud a hell. and floorboards, which makes it all the more pleasant (not).

we try and say "inside voice please" but it rarely works (sigh)

lol my Dd has one volume, very very loud lol

she gets it from her brother who is even louder so comparitavely speaking she is the quiet one lol..

I try the inside voice approach too!!! I know its a phase as he is discovering all different emotions and how to TRY and control them ...... but geezzzzz it does your head in sometimes!!!

Yelling is perfectly normal for a 2 year old. At this age its all about learning exactly what that little body of theirs can do. Just remember that from his perspective its not about you, he's not yelling to upset you or get you cranky, its just fun. Sounds completely normal. And yes it will pass as all phases do, it can just be tough riding it out sometimes.
