Does anyone know if.....

some families seem to be 'more fertile' than others, or is it purely individual??


The reason I ask is that DH and I are just beginning TTC #1. I have heard that other members of my family have concieved very quickly and was wondering if this could therefore be a family 'trait' or just luck? (for example....I was concieved first go and I know my cousins had no trouble at all - one I know was pregnant first month with one child and very early (possibly first month too) with another).

I know that this doesn't necessarily mean that my chances will be any 'higher' but I was just wondering what you all think?

I think it could be both. I have heard that there are some genetic conditions which prevent women from falling either straight away or without assisted conception (IVF etc).
Having said that though, I fall pg with no worries at all, whereas for my sister it took 9 months.

I think genetics plays a part but only up to a certain point.
My mother's family have always been very fertile (not one having trouble) but my Dad's family have had all the trouble.
My DH has issues as does his sister.
I am the only infertile one in my family but I am fertile its my tubes that stop me getting pregnant so I can't blame that on genetics but environmental factors.
A friend of mine hasn't been able to concieve (PCOS) all her sisters (3 of them) are exactly the same. One has concieved and had a DS and the others haven't been able to.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will never know until it happens, but it is always nice to know others' opinions on things!

You need to look at all factors involved!
Eg. the male and female are there no issues with both, are you healthy, do you exercise as too much can cause issues and too little isn't good for your health, weight are you under or over?, do you eat and drink healthily, what are you cycles like and do you have proper AF's and do they cause discomfort etc. that was just a few off the top of my head but you get the general idea.

My Grandma had trouble, my mum didn't and i didn't with DS1 but did with DS2... just so hard to tell unfortunately!

I have two sisters (one 9years older and one 5years younger than i) and all 3 of us have had ' unexplained ' reasons as to why we take years to fall pregnant (and we have all experienced m/c's before giving birth to out first earth side bub and we haven't been able to conceive our #2 bub) !!!
