Advice on MCN for a 7mo.. all new to me!

Hi,

I think I have finally convinced DP that we need to try MCN's!!! I have always been keen to give them a go, but he never was, and I just let it go in the end.

So now I need help!! Where do I start?? What MCN would be best from 7 months onwards? (he is about 8kgs at the moment)

I 'think' I would prefer an all-in-one type, as I dont think I would have the patience to fold nappies at the end of the day. Is there much work involved with all-in-ones? and what is the difference between snap in and sewn in? :redface:

Also what would be the most cost effective way to go about it? (as this is one of my major points with DP, the money we will save) As from what I can tell it can be pretty costily to set up a stash of MCN.

I'm no expert but I couldn't help noticing that you had no responses -
I find All-in-ones (AIOs) to be really simple and not much work at all. You get some with snap-in boosters but I think they're called all-in-twos (AI2s)?? They're pretty simple to use also and probably my fave - they dry faster than AIOs and aren't a pain to stuff like pockets...
In terms of cost, I bought a few *good* mcns - reputable brands - and also a bulk pack of cheapy pockets off ebay, that cost me about $60 including postage (for 12). So they get used at home and changed often and the better quality ones are used for going out and at night. I've now got a few fitteds (good absorbency but need covers) so I'm using the cheap pockets without the inserts as covers, which is working well.

I bought all in ones and to save money in the long run I got one size fits most. I find the bonnibuns workhorse incredibly reliable, affordable and more of an AI2 style AIO. Abby Gro ROCK as well! My cousin got me on to both of those and I haven't looked back. Both very user friendly and straight forward and don't have to upgrade as bubs grows. I use Cushie Tushies too but they aren't my favourite performance wise compared to the other 2 brands i frequent.

Another thing is the bonnbuns Night nappy is Charlotte wee proof. That baby can out wet a huggies sposie in 3 hours while sleeping but wakes up dry as anything.......

If you google MCN's you'll find all the sew in/snap in info. Basically with a snap in the booster inside the nappy can be removed for washing/drying as its attatched with snaps, which are just like press studs, but plastic. Sewn in is just that, but only sewn on one end so drying time is still quick iykwim.

AIO's are pretty easy & most now have the booster sewn or snapped in. AI2's are usually just the shell, then the booster, where as an AIO will usually have some absorbancy in the shell, then an extra booster, or the absorbancy can all be sewn into the nappy.

Fitteds, covers & pockets aren't really that much more work. Well I don't think so.

Have a look on face books buy & sell mcn's page. You should be able to pick up some second hand ones to get you started (if you don't mind 2nds). Some are new as well.
