hammock, bassinette or cot?

Ok, so i have the stroller sorted, now what type of bed for the first 6 months?

DS went straight into his cot, but for a couple of months he wouldnt sleep so we hired a hammock for him, it was a godsend!

My question is this. What would you put your new bubba in to sleep first off? These are my options:

Baby hammock for 12 months. Costly if I only have 1 more baby in it.

Bassinette for a few months. I can borrow one.

Cot with a Tetra snuggle bed in it for a few months. Dont have to worry about transitioning bub to cot as bub will be used to it from birth.

So where did/will your new bub sleep in?

BTW, co-sleeping is not an option.

we have a cot bubs will go into= we also have a small carry bed that we can pop into the cot and pop bubs into if she needs the extra comfort

Well, I've tried em all.....

We had a cradle as opposed to a bassinette for DD....she learned to roll at 6weeks and could rock the cradle leading to head bumps so that was out and she went into the cot/co-slept.

DS as you know has been a nightmare. We started with a snuggle bed...was great for a couple of days...then he hated that (so Leanne's Joshua has it now), then I got a reasonably priced hammock at 4months old. He loved it for 2 months only...so now the only place he will sleep is our bed :wall:.
I have sold his cot just recently even though i love it, because no amount of persuasion will have him in it.

If I ever flukily fall pregnant again I would get a hammock again (PM me and I can tell you where I got it). They have really good resale value. However they take up a bit of space with the stand, so if you need something smaller get a bassinette or cradle.

kim - when Arch was a bub I said if i were to ever have another child i would buy an amby hammock for sure, i guess I should really just take my own advice hey?!
We travelled a few times in the short space of time that Archie was in his hammock and found it to be so portable and no matter where we were he would sleep amazingly well! Yeah the stand does take up a bit of room but i guess a bit of extra room is a small sacrifice for a sleeping baby

We borrowed a bassinette so that we could have her in our room, then ended upmoving the cot in there anyway :p

If it's what you really want I would go for the hammock - you could always resell it?

we have done this with dd,
we have a hammock also but she goes through phases of loving or hating it but the snuggle bed into cot has been an easy transition, we are still wrapping her as well for the time being.

We got a portacot with a bassinet level and put that in our room at the end of the bed. Worked great for us as with our lifestyle we needed a portacot anyway. Good luck with your decision.

Like Kim, we tried all those things...and now we're cosleeping :rolleyes:

For us, the tetra snuggle bed was the winner for the first 4 months until he out-grew it, It was great as it was very portable and not fiddly. I could use it to cosleep during the night, or stick it in the cot during the day.

We had bought an Amby hammock that he hated. He slept in it a grand total of two times, for less than an hour each time :doh: I loved it so much though that I refused to sell it (much to DP's annoyance), and I have packed it away in its bag for the next bub (it is very compact when packed away). I really hope I can use it next time.

We also had a bassinet lol. He wouldn't have a bar of that either. It was given to us,so no money regrets there, but it is soo pretty that I am keeping it jic I may use it in the future.

Cot...we'll probably sell that soon. After he grew out of the snuggle bed, he wouldn't sleep in the cot by itself (sorry, not what you wanted to hear). He refuses too so I've given up. Hopefully yours will - my DS is a real piece of work, and I don't have the patience and energy to persist with it and try to make it work.

Overall, I'd say tetra snuggle bed. Well it worked for us and it's the most portable and least expensive, although may not have good resale value. Take the bassanet too if it's free - bub may prefer a firmer surface and sleep better in it. No harm in having it as a back up. I have lent ours to DP's cousin's newborn and she sleeps beautifully in it. I regret buying the hammock though, but now that we have it, I'm determind that the next bub will use it and get my money's worth!! :lol: If you find the other sleeping arrangements aren't working, you could always hire a hammock for a little while to see if it's worth buying?

A friends gave me the cradle that she used for her son, today, so it looks like I will be using a cradle after all that. If the cradle fails and i have another reflux bub I will hire a hammock again.
