DD has mozzie bites all over her from last night. They have come up in welts on her. I have given her some anti histamine and put paw paw on them. Is there anything else I can do??
Does anyone have suggestions to stop them biting her?? We have fly screens on the windows and doors but she seems to have more each day.
Wondering if the mozzie bites are contributing to her feral behaviour of late???? :think:
Citronella is a natural mozzie repellant. Im sore there are some natural ones that can be applied to her.

It sounds like she's allergic to them if they are coming out in welts. Same thing happens with DD and ant bites. They can get as big as 3 finger widths.
You could try Ankle Biters Natural Insect Repellent. Smells like mint apparently.
my ds attracts them too and the bites look so nasty and sore. THankfully he doesnt scratch but they take ages to go away. I have found that those mossie repelent wrist bands to be fabulous. THey are non toxic and look like the charity bracelets. You can get a pack of 2 for around $7 from boating/camping shops. They are too big to fit around ds's arm or leg but i usually just tuck it in his pocket or down the back of his pants and they work a treat.
We use a repellent called Moov which is quite good. DD reacts quite badly to them as well. MIL bought a cream that is a combination anaesthetic and antiseptic which also seems to make quite a difference to the itching and with the antiseptic in it, stops them getting infected if she keeps scratching the top off them.
There's a first aid cream called Paraderm Plus - really takes the swelling down and also has a slight topical anaesthetic effect so it stops any scratching which aggravates the histamine & therefore the itching.
Re prevention - is it possible she's being bitten during the day outside and not in her bedroom? Also, I've lived in Darwin during mossie plagues, it can help enormously to spray the repellant directly onto the flyscreens to stop them coming in.
Apart from something like "Off" I don't know how to prevent them in the first place, but as for treating them my FDC lady put a dab of white vinegar on some bites that DD had and they cleared up within about 8 hours. She just puts a little on a cotton tip. I've started doing it now too. Love it.
My DS is the same. We actually have one of those power point plug-in repellent things in his room. DH put it on a timer so we only have it on at night as we kept forgetting to turn it off. Also another idea is to have them wear long sleeves and long pants to cover up as much skin as possible.

I second the natural anaesthetic and antiseptic cream. I bought this one and a natural insect repellant from the chemist a few weeks ago and it has made a huge difference for both me and DD
I use Moov mozzie repelant (all natural) and they also make a topical cream as well for bites etc.
Marydean, good tip about spraying the fly screens with the repellant :)
When we were in Perth earlier this year we were told to make a paste using a disprin and rub on.
Tried it on myself and on DD2 who really reacts to bits and it worked. It was grainy so I might not have been doing it correctly.
