Tell Me About The Personality DIfferences In Your Children

So you know how it is. I've only had one child and I find it very difficult to imagine having a baby with a different personality to DD though logic tells me that siblings are rarely the same so there's a good chance No. 2 will be different :). They will also be the same star sign and DP and I are fairly similar in some respects.

DD is very active - DP and I were both very active as kids so you would think that No. 2 will also be active.
DD is very outgoing - DP is very outgoing, I'm more shy so I guess No. 2 could be either.
DD is very determined - I'm very determined while DP is more laid back.

So I guess we might have one that's active, shy and easygoing.

How have yours turned out and can you usually relate their personality to yours or DH/DP's?

DS is very much like me. He's quite shy and reserved yet can be outgoing at times. He has a wicked sense of humour and is very loving. He's very mature but I think that comes with being the eldest. He's like DH in that he loves all things sport and cars, he looks like DH.

DD1 is more like DH and looks like DH's sister. She's more outgoing than DS and me. She's a social butterfly and is very determined yet sensitive at the same time. She loves spending time outside or playing with friends yet craves time alone to read a book or write her stories.

DD2 is alot like me as well and looks like me. She's more creative than the other 2. She is quite shy but is starting to come out of her shell now. She tends to stand back and observe before jumping into situations. She's very loving.

DS1 is quite reserved and I would almost say shy, but it's more that he's just quiet kwim? He's definitely not a boisterous boy and as a toddler he held back a lot from doing things. Like if we took him to the Show, he would never go on a ride, he was happy to sit and watch other kids on the rides. He is still like that to an extent, will hold back from trying something new. I don't know if that is a fear related issue or just that he doesn't know how to do it, so he is worried he will stuff up so he decides not to risk it LOL. He is definitely a thinker and he gets that from both of us. He is a gorgeous soul and really gentle. But he is also easygoing. When there are new kids in his class, he is usually always the one asked to show them around the school. He is a goer as well - he is always looking for jobs to do to help out

DD1. OMG! She is such a stark contrast to what DS was that we didn't know what hit us when she was born. I think my first indicator should have been that she did nothing but scream for the first few days of her life LOL. She is headstrong, determined, stubborn, independent and thrives on drama. But she also tends to be a bit lazy as well which I hate to say she gets from me ;) All the other personality traits defnitely come from DH's side as she is exactly like his sister as a personality type. I often wonder if she is ever truly happy kwim? She is always finding something to prove that she is hard done by (she isn't) and will whinge till the cows come home over the most trivial things. I think she would have been better suited to being an only child because when it is just me and her, or her and DH, she is the perfect child. She is helpful and courteous and a real joy to be around. I do worry about how effectively we can parent her as a teen because of this. She does have good qualities, she is a nice girl and she has a wide social circle but she just clashes with us at home.

DD2 Now she defines shy. She isn't clingy, but it can really take her ages to warm up to a situation. She is definitely a thinker as well and some of the stuff she comes out with is mind boggling LOL - she has thrown some curly questions at people over the years thats for sure! She is a bit more delicate though and likes to be nurtured and babied kwim? She forms really strong attachments as well - she is 6 in a few months and still sucks her thumb and has a blankie

DS2 boy I'm glad we are stopping at him ROFL. He is a real daredevil and a complete contrast to the type of boy DS1 is. He is a real boys-boy and is constantly on the go. And there is no shyness in him at all!He is a real extrovert. He can be really headstrong as well and he has quite an anal retentive personality - things have to be done 'just so' and he will fuss around like an old woman getting things the way he likes them LOL. He is also independent as well and has to do most things for himself.

It's funny, out of all our kids DH & I both think DS1 is most like each of us ;)
I think he's like me because he's over-sensitive, a worrier and very caring. He's a clown, he's cheeky - a bit too much sometimes, he's yet to learn where to draw the line - and he can be horribly sulky. He is a pleaser - I worry that he will go out of his way for others at his own expense.

DD1 is on the surface much more confident in herself than I am / was. She's generally a bit stronger in herself than DS1. She can come across as uncaring but she' not really - she just doesn't express - and is a bit more selfish than DS1.
She has a wicked temper (which I can also but I need more provocation than her). I am a huge one for talking out my feelings & she is very private like that, we talked about that just the other day :p she tends to bottle things up.

DS2 is very independant & has been since he was a baby. He has always wanted to do things his way, and now that he's older he will argue with us over the silliest things. I think we are going to have a hellish time with him when he's a teenager. He's just very set in his opinion & ideas. He is more like DD1 in his strength. He won't do anything he doesn't want to (generally, that is) - he's not a pleaser like DS1. He can be a bit sneaky, and he is very affectionate (actually both boys are ).

DD2 is only 7 months but we are starting to see her personality peek through :D She has a temper! She also seems quite strong willed & if she wants something, she wants it 10 minutes ago. She rarely cries but when she does she goes from 0 to 100 in under 30 seconds, lol.

It always spins me out, I LOVE seeing my kids individual personalities grow :) When I was pregnant with DS2 & DD2 in particular we wondered what kind of person they would be - it's so hard to imagine until they are here! It is the most lovely surprise :)

Dudie - is extremly mature...not outspoken but not quiet. Comfortable in his own skin but wont tell me if something is wrong. LIkes his own space and can be a snooty little shiat (lile his father)
Loves building things from scratch, fantastic at math's and thinks beyond his years

Mario - you'd think having autism would make him quiet..NO WAY!!!!! He's not shy, extremly funny (fart jokes are all the rage atm) and caring yet when he's had enough..god help the person in his way (has his mothers temper :lol:)

Mini Me - well the name says it all. He is a bit withdrawn from people when she first meets them and has some anxiety issue. She'll let you know if she's not happy, hates people invading her space and touching her. Very loving and affectionate. Extemely indepandant and helpful

Tank - quiet and sly ;), he is sneaky and gives you his big baby blues and then when you turn your back he's off into something. He can be so placid and loving and the headbutt you if your not giving him enough loving back.

Its nice not having them all the same....difference personalities make life interesting and fun...even when you sound like a fishwife cause you have to yell over the caos.

Fiona, I was actually just thinking about this today. DD is only 5 months old and her little personality is just starting to shine. Where DS was more quiet, serious and liked to be left alone, on the floor, to watch the action from afar; DD is more social and giggly, and thrives on cuddles, and is so tactile- she wants to touch everyone, and snuggle in. It's fascinating to see how different they are.
