My bestie
I feel vaguely reminiscent of posting this before... maybe it was just to my blog??
Anyway, been feeling a bit sorry for myself with my Twinnie not coming to my wedding and after the 'writer' thread thought of another one I could share.
This was my speech for her 21st.
Good evening to all, my name is Ashlea,
And I’ve heard we’re all here for Miss xxxxEEE.
Please sit tight, while I share my silly rhyme,
I do ensure I’ll try not take up too much time!
Words i can say about this lovely girl we know,
As i hear there’s good reason to put her on show.
I may not have known her since she were a wee little tot,
But for the time that i have, i adore her a lot.
I missed all the days, of painting and play-doh,
Of spelling and counting and seeing her grow.
I hadn’t seen days of stressed, studying hard,
With VCE and exams, approaching steadfast.
It wasn’t until university that we eventually met,
And at first just acquaintances, not friends for a while yet.
In late 2005, i believe it is true,
Drunken wanderings would lead me to places new.
Including one day to a glenn second south hall,
Where i found myself lurking at ‘sarah409’s door.
My recollection of how it is we met,
A random night of which for a long time i did forget.
Downloading new music of similar trends,
A few coles encounters, and mutual friends.
A random road trip to MSY…
A computer warehouse for the “geekified”.
A plan was made for her twentieth birthday,
To have a few drinks, banishing teenage years away.
That night the bonds of our friendship did start,
Drinking to her twenties and over my broken heart.
One wonderful year, one week , and one day,
Is how long it’s been since our celebratory day!
In times since then, much fun we have had,
Tim tams, pizza, bacardis and chats.
Some stories we’ve made as we laughed nights away,
A night we call ‘giggle’ and many memories astray.
Most memories termed with a singular phrase,
A method to recall so many amusing days.
A night that is known for a balcony scare,
An adventure at bang, when “heart core” was there.
Waking up on her couch, our recoveries slow,
Nights before spent with Jager and goon casks in tow.
Soon came last summer, and she went on holiday,
To Italy for six weeks and i counted the days!
Was hard to catch up until she did come home,
Kept very busy, while she was gone.
I called her one day with excellent news,
But that i even applied for uni, was not something she knew!
When she came back we arranged to catch up,
But some ‘mishaps’ occurred that delayed plans as such.
A beach trip we had, early on in the year,
To St Kilda we went, where we discovered my pier fear.
A drive back to college making fun of someone,
Who got lost three times, but the journey quite fun.
Said ‘mishap’ continued, for quite a while,
Until glandular fever took it hostile.
Worried that i may have it as well,
We spent five hours together at the Austin to tell.
The blood test results, they did not even use,
But finally time left us together and a catch up ensued.
A bottle of champagne, on a ****tail night ,
MissMurder thrown out of the bar, not to her delight.
As a regular visitor to flat 22 she was coined,
Nots-Mc-Sarz-Dog, and to the chuck chart she joined.
Saying no more squares for the semester would be got,
Within two days, we had foiled her plot!
“i love you sarah” is a memorable quote,
Said sleepily by my boyfriend, i was less than stoked.
A peppermint cheesecake, she made a delicious treat,
But someone else ate it, and i cried for a week!
Making pasta carbonara, quite a tasty dish,
Madam Mafia got into the wine, and got a bit ‘pished’.
Midnight drives to McDonalds and to places afar,
Time has flown past, many memories there are.
Perhaps just another ‘teenager’ to the ordinary,
But amazing and special, she means a lot to me.
Always willing to lend a hand,
She’ll jump to attention, for problems unplanned.
Always there to help you out of bind,
A truer friend, you will never find.
A verb it became, the phrase ‘less than three’
Over time she became my best friend, my adorable twinnie.
And now this rhyme has come to an end,
A few parting words, that i will send.
Help me wish our dear, spectacular friend here,
A wonderful celebration of her twenty-first year!
May you have all the love, and friendship too,
The simple things here, can offer you.
May you lead an extraordinarily fulfilling life,
With countless friends to surround you if you’re in strife.
May you have everything from us that you gave us first,
With everything you achieve be what you deserve.
May you still be my friend when we’re old and grey,
With all of our teenage imperfections fading away.
May you remain in our hearts, when our memories fail,
As time passes and as we get older and frail.
So if you could all raise your glasses with me,
To Sarah… may an excellent life you lead.
