Physical Recovery
How long did it take you to physically recover from an ectopic? Mine ruptured and was removed 2weeks ago and I am still very, sore, nausea's, dizzy, bowels Yuck, tired! I'm over it!
I didn't have a d & C and haven't bled yet, something else to look forward too I guess?

Tegam sorry you have experienced the pain of ectopic pregnancy.
It was a good 5-6weeks before I felt better physically. Emotionally 6months on I am still a mess and part of that at the moment I don't feel will every leave but alot happened at that time not just loosing a baby and my tube. I was treated terribly by the staff many in which I had worked with on a professional level for many years. My surgery wasn't straight forward either. It was suppose to take an hr but took 3.5hours and then in recovery in theatre was suppose to be 1hr but was another 4 so my surgery and initial recovery was also out of the norm.
I didn't return to work for over 5weeks just before 6weeks. I had another lap 11weeks on from my ectopic surgery and was back at work 5days later. The lap was nothing in comparison to the ectopic surgery. Usually any lap will cause you to loose the lining of the uterus shortly after the procedure but if you had bleeding prior to the ectopic been diagnosed then maybe thats why you haven't had any bleeding. I had 8days of bleeding then the ectopic was diagnosed about a week after the bleeding ceased and I did bleeding again heavily 3days after the lap for another 10days. I did have spotting as soon as I had the lap for the first 3days before it came in heavily.
My AF returned about 5weeks later (which is the normal duration for me beftween AF's) and I did ovulate less the 3weeks after my surgery. I was sure I did and an ultrasound confirmed it 3weeks after my ectopic surgery. Often they say you will miss ovulation that month but I didn't and most people I have spoken to who have been through the same thing also have (not that we were ttc so soon after the surgery)
My bowels were disgusting which is why I had another scan as they were concerned I had an abcess. But I was passing fatty coloured stuff out the back way. Turns out it was the antibiotics I had that killed off all the natural stuff inside the bowel. It was so gross and made me feel so unwell.

mildez thank you for your reply! I have medical issues raised by mtg care also but I discharged myself from that hospital and transferred to another for the op (wouldn't have done this if I'd guessed I'd rupture that same day) but that's a whole other story. My op took over and hour but I was also in recovery for 4 hrs they couldn't control my pain.
I was 10weeks and had had a big bleed 3weeks before for 5 days and then light bleeding on and off for 8days before I went to the dr.
I only had antibiotics in theatre so I didn't think that would be it. I would love to say I had time off but I'm a sahm and dh works away so I know I'm doing way too much but what choice do I have?
Its the pain that gets me down and I feel like death I am so tired.... Don't know if its all in my head as I know I haven't processed the loss yet!
Thanks again for posting. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sorry that you are still suffering. I have found with my other miscarriage that the mum suffers long after the support networks have drifted away. That's the beauty of BB, there is nothing that was too long ago or you should be over by now.
PM me if you ever feel like a chat!

Tegam,
I'm sorry you are feeling so awful but it's big surgery, even if the scar is small. I had a tube removed because of endometriosis and it took me well over three months to recover. The inflammation can cause problems with your bowels, along with the pain medication, no wonder you are feeling so sick and also sick of it - it really wears you down, I know. Must be extra hard looking after little ones while you are feeling so unwell. Also you have been through a lot even before this all happened so be gentle with yourself, it will take time.
I would suggest you get a full strength iron supplement from the chemist if you aren't already taking one and something to help with your bowels at the same time. You'll need the iron after the mc anyway and it will make a difference to your energy levels and help rebuild your immune system. B vitamins would be good too. Unfortunately iron can cause constipation so you need to have the fibre at the same time. Walking helps too to get things moving also with energy just don't over do it.
Big hugs to you. I see you were a lucky RAK recipient too! There are some lovely women here I agree.
Take care,
Alice xx

Tegam I know the feeling about not getting help during the recovery with the kids. My DD was 2 so not tiny but very active and everytime I moved I would vomit. My eldest is 10 so she would bully the little one and DH went back to work. My kids fight terribly so that didn't help the situation. And everyone avoided me like the plague. The day I got home he wanted to take of to work and I said no way. He didn't realise how serious it was however every time I went ot do something like clean etc he would say I shouldn't but yet he wouldn't do it. Then his parents offered to come down but they were so excited that we were clearly trying for a baby they made the situation so much worse. I think DH returned to work for a few hours the day I got home and then the next day was back to usual. Its very hard when you feel like death walking but have to get back to a normal routine because of the children whilst fuming over what happened and grieving. No wonder you feel the way you do.
What Alice suggests might be very helpful. I increased my iron through my food as I have a known vitamin deficency and don't absorb what I am suppose to. My blood work was fine however not anemic etc
Have you a post op appointment you can discuss this with your specialist?
