Any success with day 3, 4 cell embryo

I had a transfer 2 days ago (on day 3) of a 4-celled em and one (better looking) 2-celled em. The clinic tells me that it's very unlikely a pregnancy would result and not to get any false hope (not that I have a lot of hope at the moment anyway). I know that everyone is differnt and anything can happen, but just wanted to know whether anyone has become pregnant from either a 4 or 2 cell embryo on a day 3 transfer. I really need to hear some positive stories. I am new to this. After a year of major disappointments and trials and errors, we finally reached a point where I could have a transfer - my first. Would really appreciate hearing back. I need a little hope.


ME 39, DH 41 (IVF, ICSI)
1St cycle: 3 mature eggs frozen (due to med reasons w DH)
2nd cycle: cancelled (LH surge)
3rd cycle: 4 eggs, 3 fertilied, 1 blast frozen (after PGD, was diagnosed with gen condition - adult onset cancer syndrome)
No longer doing PGD due to very low ovar reserve.
4th cycle 2: eggs, failed fertilization (sperm DNA fault then detected, which resulted from DH medically accquired fert problems, thus testicular biospies required)
5th cycle: 1 follicle contained no egg (devistated!) - previous 3 eggs fertilized with good sperm. ET on day 3; one 2-cell, one 4 cell (really hoping for a miracle).

I don't have personal experience with this, but just wanted to say good luck :hug:
There must be some possibility of success or they wouldn't have transferred at all I guess.

Just wanted to give you a little reassurance as my current pregnancy is a result of a day 2, 4 cell embie :D

This was our 6th full stim cycle - and I've always put back blasts apart from this one - absolutely no sign of a pregnancy or HCG reading before now.
My FS is a big believer in blasts as opposed to earlier transfers - but I pushed as I wanted to try something different - and cycle 6 I couldn't see how it wouldn't hurt to do something new IYKWIM?

He agreed in the end ;) and also said that you just never know whether an embryo can thrive better being placed back in the womb sooner... that will forever be the day 3 v the blastocyst debate :rolleyes:

We actually had 2 embryos transferred, both 4 cell - only the one took, but he's thriving & just reached my 3rd trimester yesterday - so I'm a positive story for you ;)

There are heaps of girls on here who have had early transfer success (Smithy, who just had her little girl recently - and Butterfly_Warrior - who's little man is just over a year old now)... I'm sure they won't mind me taliking about their success after so long trying!

Hopefully more people will see this thread - but in the meantime, don't give up hope at all - my early transfer was the one for me after 7yrs of trying! :hug:

Both our pregnancies were achieved with four cell embies on day three.
Good luck honey, don't give up hope! There are miracle babies all over this site as testimony to IVF success...

Gemhope, my DD is one of two frozen embryos that were transferred after being frozen at the end of day two, so by the time they were thawed and transferred they were in day 3.

One had just turned to five cells and the other was 9 cells at transfer. I won't ever know which embryo became my DD, but I want to say that it really realistic and very possible to achieve a pregnancy (and a baby at the end!) from very young embryos that have just a handful of cells.

Hang in there, and remember that yes, you need the right embryo, but giving every embryo a chance in your uterus (giving them the right place to thrive and survive) no matter how many cells it is is the way to end up with that right embryo, and right now, you may have that right embryo growing away inside you!

Just wanted to let you know that my little man was a 2 day, 2 cell embie :) So hang in there. I didnt produce many eggs, 10 in total which resulted in only 2 embies but it only takes ONE.

thank you all so much for replying, it has really given me hope and optimism. Today I spoke to a senior embyrologist at the clinic and he also sounded reasonably positive about the two embryos that were transfer - stating that they were good enough to do ET and that embies from frozen eggs can be slow growing. (I wonder why the scientists are more positive than the Drs and other staff, I don't know, this has just been my experience?). I now just have to finish the tww 9whish is pretty agonising, but I'm trying to keep preoccupied).

holly is very correct i too had a very badly fragmented 4 cell embie transferd and a 3 cell embie transferd dont know wich one took but i now have a little 6 week old baby girl in her bed sound asleep :lol:.so it can work sweet girl thats for sure .
after years of trying 3 ivf-icsi later many transfers with day 5 embies god help us it was the little slow growers that took lol..
please dont give up hun just keep telling yourself I CAN DO THIS ..I HAVE FAITH IN MY LITTLE EMBIES LOL..
