Help - peanut allergy??? 160b?

I need some help.

We had Taylor's Peanut Satay for dinner. When I wiped her face after dinner (straight after dinner, we were still at the table... about 10 minutes ago) I noticed there are two welts on the corner of her mouth, and they were very raised and red. It's going away now.

She has no other kind of reaction/symptom. She HAS had peanuts, peanut butter, even peanut satay (but not a jar sauce), and no reaction at all, and trust me I check after each peanuty meal LOL.

Here are the ingredients:
Water, sugar, peanuts (12%), salt, canola oil (antioxidant 307), thickeners (1422, xanthan gum) food acids (acetic acid, lactic acid) coconut milk solids (1%), spices (1%), herbs, flavour, garlic, chilli (0.5%), colour (160b), milk solids, honey powder.
It does say 'flavour' but it also says on the jar "No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives" so i gave them the benefit of the doubt that it's not a 621 or similar.


And I just realised there is 160b in it BUGGER IT!!! ARGH FFS! I THOUGHT I CHECKED THAT! :wall:


Is it likely that it could be a reaction to peanuts even though she's had lots of peanut-y things before?
Could 160b cause a reaction like this? We've had issues with 160b but never skin, only behavioural - irritability - and possibley headaches, but we're not really sure about that.


GRRRRR so much for a quick meal!!! I buy a jar and it's more stress than cooking from scratch :wall:

OH FFS!!!!! So I checked the noodles. Which I also didn't check because I'M AN IDIOT. Which DID also say no artifical colours, flavours and preservatives. And they have colouring 102 and 110, which are also colourings which have caused some allergys. I've never noticed a reaction to these two, nothing i've been able to isolate anyway but her track record suggests its possible the combination of colours could have caused a skin reaction??

Hope it's not an allergy, could it be something else (eg teething)? Just that I've noticed DD2 has been getting the kinds of welts you describe on her mouth lately, I can't seem to pin it down to any particular thing that she's been eating, I was wondering if maybe she's been eating something that's too salty/acidic and it's burning the corners of her mouth? I always used to get the same thing as a kid with citrus fruit. *shrug*

Sorry I know that's no help at all, I don't know much at all about additives/colours/preservatives etc and their links to allergies, I do hope Smoosh is okay and not having a bad reaction to something!

I don't think it's teeth, she cut her last one the other day (got all 20 now) unless it's her 2yo molar already :o

Shel said that about the sauce - The sauce was really spicy, I didn't expect it to be, although she seemed to really enjoy it. That could have caused some welts, we've had a lot of spciy things but most are home made.

Some allergies develop or worsen over time.
Things that they have had before & had no problems with can cause reactions all of a sudden. So it could be peanuts, or 160b or any other additives, OR it could be like Glamour said, just something a bit acidic burning her mouth...

Maybe take her to be tested if you're worried?
FWIW we had DS2 tested years ago (for another reason) & it showed a mild reaction to peanuts, he had had them before with no problems or symptoms but we avoid them now JIC.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious ;)

My DS has had a similar reaction that I am fairly sure is from those "twiggy" salami sticks that we get from our local deli. Any other type of salami or spicy meat has been fine. The blisters have disappeared after about a week or so.'

Not sure if it's the same as what you are talking about, but it looked a bit like a new coldsore - white blister with red around the outiside...
