What do you expect from your Daycare?

For those of you with children in Daycare, or even those of you who work in a Daycare...I'm trying to get an opinion on what you expect from your Daycare & see if I am wanting too much :wall:

DS1 was in a daycare from 12months for a few days a week, there are only 2 centres to choose from so I went with the best of the 2 & he's been on the family daycare waiting list for 12months or longer & we keep getting no where! He was bitten approx 10 times in the 12months he was there & got sick constantly & was never happy so wee took him out. He's been out a year now & we've just had DS2 so decided to get him back into the kindy room as the 3yr kind here is full & he needs something else, problem is I seem to worry about everything.

I didn't think there was much for them to do when I went & took him for a play. Then yesterday was his first day...he had a great time :clap: didn't want to go home. Problem was when picking him up whilst signing out he picked up a juicebox (popper, fruitbox) & started drinking it until one of the staff stopped him. He's never had juice before grrrrr. I feel it shouldn't have been left out & really shouldn't be allowed in the first place. Then he wanted to stay and have a snack by a friend so I waited...this little girl was sitting by a staff membe who was taking no notice, there were flys all over her food it was gross. These small things did annoy me. But the biggest was when I got him home he had wet & poo in his undies....it was terrible. We noted he needed prompting....he's been fine at home but not good in public....I would think they would check?? I could smell it right away.....this really upset me. Should I say something?

My DD goes two days a week to day care and my expectations are that they provide a SAFE, HAPPY, STIMULATING environment for my child and everyone elses.

I think they do a great job.

They provide all food and drink but are a healthy DC so no juice provided. Its water and milk. They are changed at set intervals through the day and also if they need it at other times and even when I arrive to pick her up, they always offer to change her just before I go again however she doesnt need it.

I get to see at the end of each day a documented account of when she was changed, what she ate, times she ate, how much she ate, time and duration of sleep and photos of what she did through the day in their day book displayed where you sign your child in and out.

She has been going for a month and while drop offs are a little bit painful she is very happy while there. They follow a program as well so they have music, art/craft, outdoor/indoor play, reading time, lots of different things.

The cost of DD's DC is $81 a day (which is the cost of most places in my area) for under 12 months. They provide all nappies, food and milk in the price and after CCB and Rebate its quite affordable.

I would def say something to them. Are the staff experienced there, young, oldm is the center director around much? I wish you had more options around you. :hug:

Yep, definitely say something. I would talk to the room leader or centre manager about your concerns. I have not heard of Day Care giving juice? Ours is water only with the kids encouraged to get their own.
Our creche is great 99% of the time. DS2 had a room change going from the 2s rm to 3s rm. He is not toilet trained yet (this weekend :crossfingers:). When he changed rooms I am not sure what happend but on his first day I picked him up and got him home and realised he came home in the nappy I had sent him in that morning. I rang creche immeadiatley and the manager was very apologetic and talked to the carer's in that room. He and one other in that room are the only ones not toilet trained yet. They apologised to me and DS2 when he went the next morning.
I also had a problem at one stage when DS2 was in a younger room where he had been bitten twice in 1 week, so again I rang the centre and they spoke to the carer's in that room. She explained they try to keep a very close eye on the known biters. It never happend again

So it is definitley worth speaking up
