I stopped b/f DD#1 at 8 months....i got AF 1 week before my wedding, so when she was 12 months old.....so i guess it took my body 4 months to kick into ovulating mode.....
I guess everyone is so different. I stopped expressing breast milk when DS was 5 weeks old and AF returned when he was 12 weeks old. I thought it would be sooner but it took a while for my body to kick back into gear after a traumatic birth and lots of issues with b/feeding that left me very unwell.
Hi,
You don't need to stop breastfeeding. Your fertility will naturally return as your baby takes more solids and sleeps longer over night. Everyone is different. When fully breastfeeding (no solids or formula) most women do not experience the return of their period (but some do!) For most people their period returns between 6mnths and 18mnths. Many people transition straight from breastfeeding to a new pregnancy without ever having a period (I think I had about 2 periods in 7 or eight year - heaven!)
DS was BFed exclusively for 8 months and now has 4-5 feeds and 2 meals a day. I got AF back when he was 8 weeks old, so I guess everyone is different!
I'm pretty sure I am ovulating now (or just did) Iain is 16 months. Still very BF'd But has started walking so as history would suggest I get AF back when my babiesstart to walk.
